Lily Collins Claims That The Second Season Of “Emily In Paris” Is More Diverse And Inclusive

Emily In Paris will be back for a second season because when the Internet hate-watches something that still counts as viewership and the studios will make another. But the first season was shit on for being horrible in every way and not really diverse. But don’t fret. Lily Collins has said that season two is all about inclusion and diversity. How exciting. Next season Emily will not only butcher the French language but maybe also Swahili!

32-year-old Lily is newly married, having tied the knot with director Charlie McDowell, last month. She’s on the cover of the December/January Elle UK, looking like a manic pixie dream girl crossed with Troye Sivan at White Party:

The first season of EIP followed twenty-something Emily Cooper as she headed from Chicago to Paris to be a fashionable marketing person, and in the cover article, Lily talked about how the reaction to the first season helped shape the second. Lily said that the Darren Star-created series is going to get an injection of inclusion in season two. via People:

“For me as Emily, but also as a producer on [the show], after season one, hearing people’s thoughts, concerns, questions, likes, dislikes, just feelings about it, there were certain things that spoke to the time that we’re living in and what’s right, and moral and correct and should be done. And [that was] something that I felt passionate about. [The producers] all believed in the same things… I really wanted diversity and inclusion in front of and behind the camera to be something that we really put our focus on, in a lot of ways… Hiring new people in front of the camera, also giving new storylines to different characters, which was really important.”

Lily also said that shooting the second season has been different because there weren’t many Americans around:

“There weren’t any Americans around because they weren’t allowed. So that felt even more strange, because the only accents you would hear were French — which was also really lovely… I definitely got to know it better this time around, just because I wasn’t taking a lot of public transport because of regulations for filming… So I was walking a lot more. Charlie is great with directions and exploring and had marked places [to visit] all over Paris, even before I had the show. And so we were constantly walking and exploring. And, you know, our crew is all French. And so is most of our cast, except for Ashley [Park, who plays Mindy] and I. So you get to experience another side of Paris with them.”

The second season premieres December 22 on Netflix, and a teaser has been released which shows Emily and her friends on a French coastal vacation:

How exciting. I saw one person of color-Emily’s friend played by Ashley Park. DIVERSE! But seriously, I’m sure the show is going to be more inclusive and by that I mean, including the new Black voters of the Hollywood Foreign Press Association in their award-buying PR blitzes.
