Ed Sheeran Thought He Was Gay For Liking Britney Spears And Musical Theater

When he was younger, Ed Sheeran thought he could be gay. Did he envision making out with the captain of the football team, or picture going to prom with THEE school sk8er boi hottie with the floppy hair and Converse sneakers? No, none of that. But he did like Britney Spears’ music and musical theater. “But could he draw in the third grade?!,” asked Mackelmore.

Buzzfeed said that Ed Sheeran was on a recent episode of the Dutch podcast, Man, Man, Man, and he talked about how when he grew up he was sort of feminine and was into pop music and musical theater, so he thought he was gay because of that.

“I definitely have a big feminine side. I love musical theater, I love pop music, I love Britney Spears. My masculine side probably stops at drinking beer and watching football. ‘I am not a car guy. I like a nice car, but I’m not a car guy. When I was a kid, I thought I was gay for a bit.”

Some are rolling their eyes at Ed thinking he was into dudes because he was a Britney fan, but society tells boys that they must like “boy shit” and if they like anything considered “girly,” they must be a big homo. So Britney-loving Ed was probably called a giant gay Hobbit every time he hummed Baby One More Time. But then again Ed’s brain still thinks that drinking beer and watching football are “manly” things.

But the ultimate “gay test” is sitting down with Britney Spears herself.

Depending on her reaction on a scale of 1 to Ryan Seacrest, we’ll see just how believably gay or straight Ed really is.
