Ana de Armas Is In Talks To Star In The “John Wick” Spin-Off “Ballerina”

Look out Tom Cruise, there’s another adorable 5’5″ brunette ball of energy ready to take the action scene by storm! And her name is Ana de Armas. Deadline says that Ana is currently in talks to star in a spin-off of the John Wick series called Ballerina. Who is the superior brunette action star? To find out, let’s have her and Tom stand side-by-side and see who can run fastest in their heels!

Ana was in Daniel Craig’s final outing as Bond, No Time To Die, and for the fifteen minutes she spent on-screen (still more than Zendaya got) she played a CIA contact who helps James Bond infiltrate a party in Cuba. And she’s also in the Netflix action movie, The Gray Man. And now CinemaBlend says that Ana is in talks to take the lead in the John Wick spin-off. Not to mention that Marilyn Monroe biopic Blonde, which will probably be considered an action movie since it’ll make everyone who pays to see it kick themselves for doing so.

Back in 2017, Ballerina was announced as being in development, but at the time Chloë Grace Moretz was in talks to play the lead. They’re really intent on having this assassin look like a doe-eyed, grown-up Cabbage Patch kid doll, huh? The character was later teased in 2019’s John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum:

Ballerina will follow a young woman raised to be an assassin who seeks revenge on the people who killed her family. The premise was briefly teased in John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum when Keanu Reeves’ title character visited Angelica Huston’s The Director, who raised John within the Ruska Roma crime syndicate back when he was known as Jardani Jovonovich. Among the things we saw during our peek at The Director’s operation was girls practicing ballet as part of their assassin training.

Here’s the scene they’re talking about:

Deadline says the budget for the Lionsgate film is somewhere in the $50-80M range and that Len Wiseman of Underworld will direct, with a script from Shay Hatten, who wrote with Zack Snyder for his recent Netflix film, Army Of The Dead and also on John Wick: Chapter 3 – Parabellum. It will be produced by John Wick director Chad Stahelski as well as Basil Iwanyk and Erica Lee.  Keanu Reeves and Anjelica Huston may provide cameos but nothing has been confirmed.

Congratulations to Ana on landing the lead in a big action movie, and she honestly put in the work. Think of all the hours upon hours she put in with Ben Affleck on the pap stroll. And when she wins an illustrious award, like an MTV TV & Movie Award, for Ballerina, she better thank Rodrigo!
