California Supreme Court Denied Brad Pitt’s Appeal In His Custody Case With Angelina Jolie
Brad Pitt’s latest legal move in his ongoing (and going and going and going) custody battle against Angelina Jolie over five of their six kids was denied. Brad and Angelina’s divorce fight had been overseen by Judge John Ouderkirk, a judge known to Brad and Angelina for a very long time (Judge John married Brad and Angelina back in 2014). Angelina thought something was fishy between Judge John and Brad’s legal team, so she petitioned to have him thrown off their case. A court reviewed the situation and agreed, and Judge John was gone, along with all the custody judgments he’d made. Brad ran to an appeals court and requested they take a look at that decision, in hopes that the decision would be overturned and Judge John’s custody ruling would remain as it was when Judge John tapped his little gavel or whatever. And….they didn’t. The decision stays, Judge John is still out.
Between this, and finally being able to dump all her shares in Château Miraval, Angelina seems to be winning lately. Brad filed his petition nearly two months ago, in response to a July decision to officially remove Judge John. During their custody fight, Angelina’s side accused Brad’s side of being pals with Judge John and having open cases with him on other things. Angelina cried “conflict of interest, inability to be impartial!“. Angelina had also requested that several of the Jolie-Pitt children testify, and Judge John reportedly shot that idea down. So, once again, Angelina accused Judge John of playing favorites with People Magazine’s Two-Time Sexiest Man Alive.
And clearly, the appeals court agreed, because they removed Judge John. That means that Judge John’s ruling of temporary joint legal and physical custody of the five youngest Jolie-Pitts (Maddox Jolie-Pitt is legally an adult who doesn’t need custody). Obviously, Brad wanted that ruling to remain, so he fought for Judge John, but to no avail. via People magazine:
The California Supreme Court has denied Brad Pitt’s appeal regarding the actor’s ongoing custody case with Angelina Jolie. On Wednesday, the high court upheld the appellate court’s disqualification decision in a ruling obtained by PEOPLE, simply stating: “Petition and stay denied.”
A rep for Brad released a statement on this decision:
A representative for Pitt tells People that the appeals court’s previous decision “was based on a technical procedural issue and the Supreme Court’s decision not to review that procedural issue does not change the extraordinary amount of factual evidence which led the trial judge – and the many experts who testified – to reach their clear conclusion about what is in the children’s best interests. We will continue to do everything that’s legally necessary based on the detailed findings of the independent experts.”
A rep for Angelina also released a statement, and if you ever wanted to picture Angelina doing her happy dance (a slow, melancholy side-to-side sway), picture it to this statement:
“Ms. Jolie is focused on her family and pleased that her children’s wellbeing will not be guided by unethical behavior As reinforced by California’s appellate courts, our judiciary prioritizes ethics and children’s best interests, and won’t tolerate judicial misconduct to reward the interests of a party. Ms. Jolie is glad for the family to now move forward cooperatively.”
Ah yes, he children. What of them now? Things are apparently going way, way back to an old custody agreement.
The custody arrangement now adheres to the Nov. 2018 agreement regarding their minor children – Pax, 17, Zahara, 16, Shiloh, 15, and twins Vivienne and Knox, 13.
The details of that temporary custody agreement were confidential, but sources came through and spilled the beans, saying that Brad and Angelina had allegedly agreed to joint custody and that Brad was allowed to have overnight visits with his kids. Again, this is a temporary custody agreement from nearly three years ago. That’s how long this shit has been going on! They’re starting to go back and dig through the archives to re-issue some special editions of the greatest hits. But please, stop before you get to the limited-edition two-disc set of The Airplane Sessions. Nobody wants to relive that.
