Meghan McCain Really Didn’t Like Getting Parodied On “Saturday Night Live”

The View has been joked about on Saturday Night Live since the Cheri Oteri days, but SNL was really able to get some sketch comedy mileage out of its recent seasons. Aka, the seasons in which The View was basically a daytime TV version of the Thunderdome, in which Whoopi Goldberg, Joy Behar, Sunny Hostin, Sara Haines, and Ana Navarro enter, and only Meghan McCain’s bloated sense of entitlement leaves. Meghan has been parodied on SNL plenty of times, and she recently let everyone know that she did NOT think it was very funny.

Meghan has been played several times by Aidy Bryant, who is not only also an Arizona native, but actually went to the same high school, Xavier College Preparatory (Aidy was a freshman while Meghan was a senior). Two years ago, Meghan said that Aidy’s impression was a “huge pop cultural honor.” When Aidy came to visit The View to promote her TV series Shrill back in 2019, Meghan received Aidy warmly.

Apparently, all that was pure bullshit, at least if Meghan’s recent comments are to be believed. Meghan has already called out the alleged toxic environment of The View while promoting her audiobook Bad Republican,. Meghan believes Joy Behar “hated” her, and that it was “humiliating” for her to be the butt of so many Twitter jokes. Turning on the television on Saturday night didn’t help. via Rolling Stone:

“I think partly Saturday Night Live parodies have this way of becoming reality. I’ve seen it so many times with Sarah Palin, Hillary Clinton. The stereotypes of who you are become true. [George W.] Bush being an idiot. I still think Alex Trebek is someone who celebrities hated. Sometimes the parody is the person, and I think that probably played a factor, too. People really loved it when SNL dunked on me, and it was not flattering or kind. And, by the way, they were pretty nice to the rest of the [‘View’] cast, just not great to me.”

Meghan added that she believes she’s got a pretty good sense of humor (apparently not, but okay), and even still, she wasn’t able to laugh at everyone laughing at her on SNL. She says that the “spoiled, entitled queen of nepotism persona that is out there” is depressing, and she’s felt like “the laughing stock of the country.” For reference, here is a sketch from SNL, featuring Aidy’s impression of Meghan.

On a scale of to “Playfully clowning on GOOP” to “Norm Macdonald repeatedly calling OJ Simpson a murderer,” Aidy’s version of Meghan McCain isn’t harsh. She called her the Princess of Arizona! Isn’t that Meghan’s official title? Her pretend fight with Kate McKinnon’s Joy Behar was practically a lesson in civility and mutual respect, compared to their actual on-air brawls. And Aidy was basically recreating actual scenes and dialogue from episodes of The View. Maybe Meghan disliked the lack of realism in Aidy’s portrayal. Aidy made Meghan out to be a spoiled, entitled queen of nepotism, but did you know she’s also disrespectful and annoying?
