Jamie Lynn Spears Changed The Name Of Her Memoir After Getting Called Out By Britney Spears’ Fans
I’m sure there are fans of Britney Spears who are looking at that book cover and thinking, “There are also things you shouldn’t have done, like, oh I don’t know, peddling a tell-all in the wake of all the attention your sister has been getting.” According to Page Six, Jamie Lynn Spears’ publisher was forced to change the title of her book, because the original title had Britney fans dragging her for using a lyric from one of her sister’s songs. And even after the title change, Jamie Lynn is now denying that she’s jumping on the coattails of all that attention Britney has been getting recently, by claiming that her book has been in the works for over four years.
The original title for Jamie Lynn’s book was I Must Confess, which of course is a reference to Britney’s iconic 1999 hit, “Baby One More Time.” To be fair, that title sounds more like what Jamie Lynn should be doing with a priest if she wants to salvage what’s left of her soul, in the event she really was in conservator cahoots with her father, Jamie Spears. But the issue was that Jamie Lynn’s memoir, which is all about Jamie Lynn’s life, was capitalizing on her sister’s career. After she was called out, her publisher, Worthy Publishing, issued this statement:
“We deeply regret that incorrect and incomplete information about her book has appeared in the public space, particularly at this sensitive time for Jamie Lynn and her family,” Worthy Publishing said in a statement on Instagram at the time, adding that the “as-yet-untitled memoir” was “still in development.”
Jamie Lynn confirmed the new title on Instagram yesterday, and what was allegedly going to be I Must Confess by Jamie Lynn Spears, is now Things I Should Have Said by Jamie Lynn Spears.
As she explains in that caption, her memoir will be released in January 2022, and it’s definitely 100% not something done in name of making cash while the Spears family name is trending. Jamie Lynn claims that she’s been working on her book for several years, and decided to write it after her eldest daughter Maddie Aldridge’s scary ATV accident in February 2017. And she’s been working right up until that final draft deadline, apparently. Page Six writes that there used to be a sub-title on that book which read: Family, Fame and Figuring It Out. Page Six says it appears that it has been deliberately removed. And I wonder why that would be? Oh, maybe because one member of Jamie Lynn’s family is currently battling accusations of wiretapping the phones and bugging the bedroom of another member of her family?
So it looks like the title is officially Things I Should Have Said, with no reference to Britney or family. And yeah, that sounds like a placeholder title for any celebrity memoir. But Jamie Lynn herself has a limited discography of one single album, so I can see why she didn’t pull one of her own lyrics for that title. Her only song to hit the music charts was titled, “How Could I Want More.” But again, that sounds less like a book title and more like a possible legal defense for when that forensic accountant opens the books and sees where Britney’s money went.
