Open Post: Hosted By Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber Declaring That He Hated The “Cats” Movie So Much That He Got A Dog
Sir Andrew Lloyd Webber hated Cats as much as the rest of us even though he’s responsible for it too. Although, he’s differentiating between the movie version and his stage production. And in a profile for Variety, Sir ALW that he was so “emotionally damaged” from the film version of his musical (same) that he went out and got a dog. Welp, he must’ve seen the butthole version!
While Sir ALW is responsible for the original 1981 Tony Award-winning stage musical based on T.S. Eliot’s collection of poems, he’s washed his hands of the movie. Which he helped write a song for and also promoted on his own social media. Sir ALW’s interview with Variety was mostly about how he’s trying to save the theater industry after the COVID pandemic tore its ass a new one, but he took some time away from helping out the theater to shit all over the movie he obviously made money off of.
“Cats was off-the-scale all wrong,” says Lloyd Webber. “There wasn’t really any understanding of why the music ticked at all. I saw it and I just thought, “Oh, God, no.” It was the first time in my 70-odd years on this planet that I went out and bought a dog. So the one good thing to come out of it is my little Havanese puppy.”
That puppy has been a constant companion of Lloyd Webber’s during lockdown. They have grown so attached that he’s even figured out a way to bring the dog to New York the next time he travels to the city.
“I wrote off and said I needed him with me at all times because I’m emotionally damaged and I must have this therapy dog,” says Lloyd Webber. “The airline wrote back and said, “Can you prove that you really need him?” And I said “Yes, just see what Hollywood did to my musical Cats.” Then the approval came back with a note saying, “No doctor’s report required.””

I don’t know what actual cats have to do with this–they didn’t ask to be bastardized and given human hands and faces twice within a year for some reason. They should be suing Andrew for stealing their likeness and damaging their reputation! Someone get these pussies a lawyer!
