Jamie Lee Curtis Is Worried That We Could Be Losing An Entire Generation Of Faces To Plastic Surgery

Jamie Lee Curtis technically qualified for legend status the day she whipped her high-cut thonged ass around a bedpost in True Lies, and she gains extra legend points every time she squares off against Michael Myers (next showdown: this Halloween). And she doesn’t have to do much to maintain her beloved status, yet she continues to be open and honest about a variety of topics, like her decade-long Vicodin addiction, or her co-stars dick pics. And recently the Baroness Haden-Guest decided to give us her thoughts on plastic surgery. Specifically, how she believes that au naturel visages are at risk of being added to the endangered species list if people keep fucking with their faces.

The Kardashian family’s favorite way to spend time and money came up during an interview between Jamie Lee and Fast Company. Jamie Lee doesn’t have the standard Hollywood face of a 62-year-old woman attempting to look 22, but that doesn’t mean she hasn’t ever dipped into a plastic surgeon’s office. Jamie Lee admits that the reason she got addicted to Vicodin back in the day was due to receiving a prescription after getting her eyes done (she’s currently 20 years sober). Jamie Lee tells Variety that she was working on a film when a cameraman said he couldn’t shoot her face because her eyes looked too puffy (as a member of the “I got plenty of rest, why do you ask?” hooded eye gang, I can relate). Jamie Lee was embarrassed and ashamed, so she got her eyes done and was given Vicodin for pain management. Pain management turned Jamie Lee Curtis into what she describes as a “junkie” and a “dope fiend.

She’s not exactly the only one in show business who has gotten a little facial renovation done. And because of that, Jamie Lee thinks that so many people rushing to change their faces is going to create a generation of future people that only vaguely look like people. via Fast Company:

“I tried plastic surgery and it didn’t work. It got me addicted to Vicodin. I’m 22 years sober now. The current trend of fillers and procedures, and this obsession with filtering, and the things that we do to adjust our appearance on Zoom are wiping out generations of beauty. Once you mess with your face, you can’t get it back.”

Jamie Lee adds that she thinks our culture’s obsession with our looks has only been amplified by social media, and that there’s no way seeing everyone’s perfect faces on social media is doing anything besides messing with our self-esteem. That’s not to say she hates social media; Jamie Lee stresses that she uses it to get a quick sponsored content check and that she likes that it can expose people to important causes or issues. But generally, she thinks it’s shitty for the younger generation who are getting crippling insecurities from seeing pore-free faces and artificial bodies.

“I use social media to sell things and amplify things I care about. Period. The rest is cancer. I never read one comment. I believe I can do my job and have a private life. I believe in the separation of church and state. I believe that I do not owe anybody anything once I’ve done my work. I am by nature a super-friendly person, but I also have a very clear boundary of what is appropriate and inappropriate for me to share…We just don’t know the longitudinal effect, mentally, spiritually, and physically, on a generation of young people who are in agony because of social media, because of the comparisons to others. All of us who are old enough know that it’s all a lie. It’s a real danger to young people.”

You don’t have to look very far to find a famous person who looks more like their own distant cousin in a pre-fame picture. And while some famous types want to remain mysterious about the work they’ve had done, there are lots of celebrities who will loudly tell you exactly where their surgeon opened up their face in the name of vanity. But Jamie Lee needs to look on the bright side. If she stays away from surgery, she’ll only manage to get more and more work! Think of how easy it would be for her agent to sell her to casting directors; they just have to play up the studio cost savings. “Jamie Lee Curtis can still move most of the muscles in her face – you wouldn’t have to spend a dime on CGI motion capture to make her smile or frown!
