Kacey Musgraves Was Indeed Naked Under Her Guitar On “Saturday Night Live”
Kacey Musgraves was the musical guest on the 47th season premiere of Saturday Night Live, which aired last Saturday. The show was hosted by Owen Wilson but the real headline-grabber was Miss Kacey who sang her song Justified from her new album Star-Crossed completely naked. So yeah, if her hand slipped while strumming her guitar, she could’ve strummed her down-low part instead.
Kacey really let it all hang out when she donned a huge guitar and pretty much nothing else, and stepped out onto the SNL stage to sing the first single from her new album which is all about her marriage and recent divorce from her ex-husband, Ruston Kelly–which is awkward since Kacey wrote her last album, the Grammy-winning Golden Hour, about how amazing he was. There are some really inspiring love stories in Hollywood, huh? Kacey and Ruston were married from 2017 to 2020 and the divorce was finalized in September of last year. And she’s got a new man, Cole Schafer.
Ahead of her SNL performance, Kacey tweeted that the inspiration behind it was Robin Wright‘s character Jenny from Forrest Gump singing Bob Dylan’s Blowin’ in the Wind. Her stylist, Erica Cloud commented: “Boots by @celine, Birthday suit by @spaceykacey.”

Variety spoke to Kacey’s publicist who confirmed she was actually naked and not wearing some kind of skin-toned Skims pastie somewhere:
“She was nude. Precautions were taken, and this was the first time it’s happened on the show.”
On Reddit, people who were at the show co-signed the statement:
“I was in the dress rehearsal audience. After her performance people gathered around her with large towels to wrap her so could stand and walk off stage.”
“Was at the live. Pretty sure she was actually naked. I was on the audience side closest to her. Right before her first song, they set up a moveable wall, blocking the audience from seeing her. After the song, they moved it back to cover her again and covered her with some sort of towel/robe. She was super chill, kinda walked off stage in the towel and waved. But yeah, seemed pretty legit.”
Kacey’s rep confirmed she used a sheet to cover her goodies from the audience while the performance was set up.
Good for Kacey for being the first naked person performing on SNL. But I guarantee that in a few weeks Pete Davidson will do the same thing in one of his pre-filmed music videos. Although, if it’s really true that most of Pete’s body weight lies in his dick, then he might need a bigger guitar.
