Steven Van Zandt Talks About His Threesome Addiction, His Falling Out With Bruce Springsteen, And “The Sopranos” In His New Memoir

70-year-old Steven Van Zandt’s got a new memoir titled Unrequited Infatuations out this week, and in it, he writes about the time he quit Bruce Springsteen and the E Street Band, how he could’ve been Tony Soprano, and how in the 1970s, his dick just loved the variety of two different sets of genitals during sex times. I know, a rock star from the 70s loving threesomes. As I fall over with shock, every rock star from the 70s is probably calling Steven a “virgin” before diving into a sea of a dozen coochies.

Steven Van Zandt officially joined the E Street Band in 1975, and right before Born In The U.S.A. came out, he quit for the second time (he briefly quit in 1979) after a fall out with Bruce Springsteen. He told The New York Post that he quit because he felt he was being pushed out as Bruce’s main confidante:

“I just felt I was not being appreciated anymore ’cause I was always his main adviser in a way just from being his best friend, and then a new manager had come in and become his main adviser.”

“I thought he’s not really paying as much attention to my advice as much as he used to. I felt like I should be part of the official management team, and he just disagreed with that ’cause I was his little brother in his eyes. So I thought, to preserve the friendship, I think the best thing to do is to leave, so that’s when I split.”

Steven called that move a big mistake and said it was career suicide because it “ended his life” as he knew it. Right before Steven left the band, Bruce started playing the part of a working-class hero and Steven didn’t understand that shit. via Yahoo!:

He pressed that between “Born to Run” and “Darkness of the Edge of Town,” Springsteen completely shifted his look and persona which Van Zandt believes was bogus from the get-go.

“He completely, 180 degrees changed his identity. He’s fronting, he’s playing a character,” said Van Zandt. “That was the most important moment of his life because he stayed in that persona forever.”

Steven and Bruce kissed and made up and he rejoined the E Street Band in 1995. And speaking of playing a role, Steven wrote in his memoir that The Sopranos’ creator David Chase wanted him to play Tony Soprano but HBO spat on that idea. Steven got the role of Silvio Dante instead. via The New York Post:

The guitarist said the show’s creator, David Chase, initially wanted him to play the role of Tony Soprano. “HBO said, “David, you’re out of your fucking mind,”” he recalled. “”We’re not gonna hire somebody for this huge part that has never acted before.””

Van Zandt recalled seeing James Gandolfini come in to audition for another role: “I’d seen him in a few movies, and I thought he was fantastic. True Romance and Get Shorty, you know, I’d seen him, and he stood out to me.” He ultimately recommended Gandolfini for the starring role, and the rest is history. “Eventually, the right thing happened,” he noted, “thank goodness.”

Steven and Maureen were married on New Year’s Eve 1982 with his friend Little Richard officiating and Bruce Springsteen as his best man. Steven, Little Richard, and Bruce Springsteen, that’s a hot threesome! But not hotter than all the threesomes Steven had in the 70s. According to Steven, he “developed a temporary addiction to ménages à trois” back then.

“It was a real, sexually liberated time. The ’70s, there’s never been anything quite like it, honestly. It was just a wild, wild time, and women were truly, truly liberated there for a minute. I mean, it was a really wonderful time to be alive. So, you know, ménages à trois [were] not that unusual.”

Steven also brought the comedy, by joking that he’s not as rich as people think he is (the internet claims his net worth is $80 million) and it would be nicer to be richer than he was famous.

“It’s a bit annoying to be more famous than you are rich. I don’t want to be. I’m not a complainer. I’m not whining. There’s nothing worse than a whining rockstar. But, you know, people think, like, when trying to raise money for various causes, they look at me, like, you know, “Why don’t you pay for it? What are you asking me for money for?””

Well, maybe it’s time for Steven to bring back his love of threesomes. Pair that with his fame and an OnlyFans account and the money will just roll right in. And before he knows it, he’ll take down The Cash Me Ousside Girl’s record!
