“Saturday Night Live” Is Losing Cast Members, But Not Kate McKinnon, Pete Davidson, Or Aidy Bryant

A few months ago, it was rumored that five major cast members were done with Saturday Night Live, and wouldn’t be returning for the show’s upcoming 47th season. Those five cast members included: Pete Davidson, Cecily Strong, Kate McKinnon, Aidy Bryant, and Kenan Thompson wouldn’t be back. All of them had moments in the season 46 finale that kind of made it seem like they were saying goodbye. But the internet gossips were wrong. As it turns out, SNL will be losing Beck Bennett instead. Pete, start lifting weights and guzzling protein shakes – someone needs to pick up the shirtless slack left vacant by Beck’s absence.

Pete had previously claimed he didn’t love being the go-to cast member to play dumb idiots, and he’s doing movies now. The others had been on the show for nearly a decade each (or nearly two decades, if you’re Kenan Thompson). But it looks like they’re all clocking in next month when the show returns. But not SNL‘s Vladimir Putin. Beck Bennet has been on SNL since 2013 (he was promoted from featured player to the main cast in 2015). He isn’t the only person not coming back. Featured player Lauren Holt, who didn’t exactly get a whole lot of screen time in her single season of SNL employment, is not returning either. via Deadline:

Saturday Night Live has finally set its cast for its upcoming 47th season. The long-running NBC institution is bringing back the majority of its cast members, including Aidy Bryant, Pete Davidson, Kate McKinnon and Cecily Strong.

However, Beck Bennett, who joined SNL in 2013, is departing, alongside Lauren Holt, who joined as a featured player last season.

Beck addressed his departure on Instagram. Considering it wasn’t just a picture of his middle finger and a caption that read: “Fuck you, Lorne Michaels, you wrinkly old raisin,” one can assume he’s leaving on good terms.

SNL also announced a few recent additions, like recent Emmy nominee Bowen Yang being upgraded to the main cast, and three new featured players who may or may not be anxiously combing through their old tweets right now:

I’m guessing that Lorne is going to be eating canned beans for the next year as a way to save money after his pockets were thoroughly picked by the returning cast. Because hanging around for another season is one thing. That’s a favor performed out of the kindness of one’s heart. But coming back for a season in which they have to struggle through the experience of Kim Kardashian as a host?! That’s going to cost extra.
