Jennifer Lopez Says That She Sometimes Feels Like An “Outsider” In Hollywood

I know that most people believe Madonna is the mother of re-invention, but that title needs to go to Jennifer Lopez because she’s the Optimus Prime of pop stars. And yes, I get it. Her ability to re-purpose discarded items from her past is unmatched. Still, she sometimes struggles with knowing just how popular she really is. Honestly, that sounds crazy since all the spotlights and accolades have been thrown at her for her greatest role yet in the reboot of Bennifer 1.0, co-starring Ben Affleck. However, even though JLo’s IMDB page is filled with future project after future project, she says that she feels like an “outsider” in Hollywood. Translation: “I still hate you, snobby Hollywood motherfuckers, for not giving me that Oscar nominations for Hustlers!

Entertainment Tonight reports JLo has taken a moment out of her busy schedule of stuntin’ with Ben to talk about her involvement with Sephora’s “We Belong” campaign. And one place JLo feels like that she sometimes doesn’t “belong” is Hollywood:

“I think for me… I know it’s so important for all of us to feel like we belong,” she says in the video.

JLo is most likely talking about getting snubbed for a Best Supporting Actress Oscar last year. Many thought she’d get her first nom for Hustlers, but while Laura Dern (Marriage Story), Kathy Bates (Richard Jewell), Scarlett Johansson (JoJo Rabbit), Margot Robbie (Bombshell), and Florence Pugh (Little Women) got into the Best Supporting Actress category, JLo did not. It would’ve been her first Oscar nom, and at the time, she said this to Oprah:

“I felt like I let everyone down a little bit. I was sad. I was a little sad because there was a lot of buildup to it. There were so many articles, I got so many good notices — more than ever in my career and there was a lot of: ‘She’s going to get nominated for an Oscar, it’s going to happen; if it doesn’t you’re crazy.’

I’m reading all the articles going: ‘Oh my God, could this happen?’ And then it didn’t and I was like: ‘Ouch.’ It was a little bit of a letdown.”

But beyond the talk about being an outsider, JLo continued to push her JLo Beauty brand for Sephora’s campaign:

“I believe we all have this limitless power inside us that makes us unstoppable,” she added. “I worked really hard to get where I am today, and I’ve learned that the only way to truly feel beautiful is to love and accept yourself fully for who you are.”

J.Lo I love how you can turn on the I’m Every Woman charm when it’s time to get down with the people. But this is a hard pass for me. And not just because I only go to Sephora for the free samples. I just don’t trust anyone who hasn’t aged since the 90s. Oh, wait! Maybe that’s the angle Sephora has been going with all along.
