Volkswagen’s Da Da Da commercial from the 90s!

Here I was, innocently going through life, forgetting all about the earworm that was the Da Da Da song. But then, reader Jen just had to shove it back into my brain by suggesting Volkswagen’s Da Da Da commercial for HSOTD. Da Da Damn you, Jen!

September 18, 2021, is the day that I found out that the Da Da Da song’s formal title is Da Da Da I Don’t Love You You Don’t Love Me Aha Aha Aha. It’s from now-defunct German new wave band Trio and didn’t actually come out in the 90s. It came out in 1982 and was a global hit, hitting #1 on the charts in several countries. But I didn’t hear it until 1997 when Volkswagen used it in a commercial for the VW Golf. The commercial was very film school short film and showed two dudes chilling out in a Golf while driving around as Da Da Da fills our ear holes. And in the commercial, the Abandoned Couch’s long-lost child, the Abanded Chair, makes a very special cameo appearance. But really, it was all about that endless Da Da Da Da Da Da Da….

Personally, I’m still waiting for Sigourney Weaver’s Heartbreakers character to do a Russian version of this called, well, called Da Da Da. And now if you’ll excuse me, I have to go and deal with the fact that Da Da Da will be the only sound in my head for the rest of my life, and honestly, that’s a major step up from my usual useless thoughts.
