Rihanna, The Unofficial Queen Of The Met Gala, Arrived Late And Was Dressed Very Comfortably

There are certain guarantees in this life, like death, taxes, and all that. But one of the most reliable is that Rihanna will bless the Met Gala and it will be in a show-stopping ensemble guaranteed to place her on a lifetime’s worth of Best Dressed lists. Rihanna was a co-chair of the 2018 Met Gala and has attended many times, so naturally, a whole lot of people expected to see Rihanna part the sea of photographers like a sexy Moses. Except people had to wait a while for Rihanna to show up. She was the last celebrity to arrive and when she did, she and her boyfriend A$AP Rocky kept it comfy cozy. Okay yes, Rihanna has paired her nylon puffy coat and slouchy beanie with millions of dollars worth of diamonds, but I’m pretty sure that’s Rihanna’s version of casual.

Rihanna and A$AP arrived long after the red carpet live stream was over and all the other attendees were inside partying. Rihanna wore a Balenciaga coat gown that was roomy enough to smuggle in several Costco-sized bags of snacks, a whole bar’s worth of drinks, and a ton of weed. Rihanna’s look is the perfect way to say, “Thank you for inviting me, but I won’t be checking my coat. I’d like to make like my boyfriend’s first name and run off ASAP.”

I live in a cold-weather climate, so Rihanna’s look reminds me of everyone once the temperature dips below freezing and we’re all wrapped in the biggest synthetic down-filled coat we can afford from Winners. Rihanna is all of us city-dwelling Canadians running out to get milk and frozen burritos in the middle of January. A$AP Rocky matched with Rihanna by wearing a couch quilt.

Technically he was wearing a design by designer Eli Russell Linnetz. But underneath granny’s quilt, he was wearing a very nice suit. Rihanna also wasn’t just a walking advertisement for Bed Bath & Beyond. She too had a change of clothing that she wore to her after-party.

I’m a little disappointed that she didn’t keep the giant, puffy coat on. This year’s Met Gala seemed like a bit of a snooze, and I’m sure there was more than one person who would have loved to lean against Rihanna, grab a corner of her coat gown, and take a quick nap.
