Barbie’s Bubble Gum Shop!

In the mid-90s, Barbie, the hardest-working trick in every game, continued to prove that she can really do anything by becoming a bubble gum mogul. Mattel and Bubble Yum teamed up for Barbie’s Bubble Gum Shop, which was a playset where kids could shape gum and then sell it to their little friends. Oh, the 90s, a time when many kids probably thought they were going to put Wrigley’s out of business with their Barbie-ran bubble gum empire!

Mattel released Barbie’s Bubble Gum Shop in 1995 and it came with everything you needed to start your bubble gum business (well, everything except for the powdered sugar. Cheap bitches!). The way it worked is that you took a piece of square bubble gum, dipped it in powdered sugar, and put it in the mold of your choice. There were several mold shapes including a heart, a teddy bear, a horse, Barbie herself, and a stick with Barbie’s logo on it. Once you created the gum, you could sell it for the price of a pink plastic token. Barbie’s friend put their token in the register and out came their bubble gum. Get into the technological bubble gum wonder of it all!

If only my mom got me one of those. After selling my third or fourth piece of bubble gum (to myself), I’d say to her, “Quit your job and call Forbes, tell them there’s a new mogul to add to their list!
