And Now Jamie Spears Has Asked The Judge To #FreeBritney

September 8, 2021 / Posted by:

Around this time last year, Britney Spears’ father/co-conservator, Jamie Spears, was spitting fire at the #FreeBritney movement, saying those “conspiracy theorists” don’t know shit about shit. Well, what a difference a year (and the threat of being investigated over how he spent his daughter’s money) makes. Because now Daddy Spears is holding up a #FreeBritney sign himself.

The Hollywood Reporter says that yesterday, Daddy Spears, filed a petition to end Britney’s 13-year conservatorship. The judge in the case, Judge Brenda Penny, is probably wearing a neck brace after getting a case of whiplash, because just last month, it seemed like Daddy Spears wasn’t going to walk away from his daughter’s conservatorship that easily. “If I can’t milk coins from my daughter’s fortune, NOBODY CAN!” – Daddy Spears, probably.

As everyone and their favorite Starbucks barista knows by now, Britney told Judge Brenda Penny in June that she wants the court to take a sledgehammer to the shackles of her conservatorship. At the very least, she wanted to be able to pick her own lawyer and wanted her “abusive” and “controlling” father out. Britney’s wish for a new lawyer was granted and she picked Mathew Rosengart to be her attorney. Mathew immediately filed a petition to get her father out. Daddy Spears is currently the conservator of Britney’s money while Jodi Montgomery is the conservator of Britney “the person.” Jodi agreed that Daddy Spears should be kicked out of the conservatorship too. He responded by saying that he’s “willing” to step down when the time is right. Mathew then alleged that Daddy Spears shamelessly wanted $2 million to exit stage left.

Britney’s petition to kick out her father will be heard at a hearing on September 29th. And during that hearing, Daddy Spears will also call on the court to end Britney’s conservatorship for good. His petition states that because the court felt she’s fit enough to pick her own lawyer, he feels like the keys to her life should be handed back to her. via THR:

“As Mr. Spears has said again and again, all he wants is what is best for his daughter,” the document says. “If Ms. Spears wants to terminate the conservatorship and believes that she can handle her own life, Mr. Spears believes that she should get that chance.” Judge Brenda Penny, who oversees the case, will need to approve the move.

Jamie also wants the conservatorship shit-canned without Britney having to go through a mental health evaluation. When Britney addressed the court in June, she made it clear that she wants the same thing.

In a statement to Vanity Fair, Mathew Rosengart called Daddy Spears’ move a “massive legal victory” and said that they have not given Daddy Spears the $2 million severance package he wanted:

“This filing represents a massive legal victory for Britney Spears, as well as vindication. Having exposed his misconduct and improper plan to hold his daughter hostage by trying to extract a multimillion-dollar settlement, Mr. Spears has now effectively surrendered. There is no settlement. To the extent Mr. Spears believes he can try to avoid accountability and justice, including sitting for a sworn deposition and answering other discovery under oath, he is incorrect and our investigation into financial mismanagement and other issues will continue.”

But if you’re thinking that something in the Frapp ain’t clean about this, sources tell TMZ that you’re on the right track. Sources say that Daddy Spears’ move to end the conservatorship is… wait for it… wait for it.. a selfish one. Apparently, he doesn’t think his daughter is mentally well and should be in charge of her own life. He doesn’t think the conservatorship should end but thinks that if he acts like he wants it to end, it’ll take the heat off of him and may put him in Britney’s good graces.

Jamie, we’re told, has no love lost for Britney’s lawyer, Mathew Rosengart. By filing the latest legal docs, in a sense, Jamie thinks he trumped Rosengart, who has not yet filed a motion to end the conservatorship — something he calls out in his legal docs. This puts Rosengart in an interesting position … whether to join forces with Jamie at the Sept. 29 hearing and end the conservatorship, or not.

It’s almost like saying, “Okay, you think the conservatorship should end. Then bring it on. Let’s see what happens.”

Daddy Spears’ possibly pulling shady moves is not a surprise, but maybe, just maybe, he really does want his daughter’s conservatorship to end. And on September 29, he’ll bravely stand up in court to say, “Let’s burn the conservatorship to the ground! And since we’re starting a fire, let me just throw in some of my old financial docs, accounting books, and laptops…
