Sarah Harding Of Girls Aloud Has Died At 39 From Cancer

It looks like it is a weekend of sadness. Just a year after Sarah Harding of the British girl group Girls Aloud announced that she had been diagnosed with breast cancer and it had spread to other parts of her body, she has died two months before her 40th birthday at the way, way, way, way, way, (insert a million more “ways” here) too young age of 39.

Sarah’s mother, Marie Hardman, announced the horrible news this morning on her daughter’s Instagram, writing that Sarah fought that demon trash cancer hard but she should be remembered for the bright shining star she was:

Before becoming a part of Girls Aloud, Sarah traveled through England performing at pubs and social clubs. In 2002, she auditioned for two reality singing competitions: Fame Academy and Pop Stars: The Rivals. When she made it into the first round of Pop Stars, she dropped out of Fame Academy. Sarah won the show along with Cheryl Tweedy, Nadine Coyle, Kimberley Walsh, and Nicola Roberts. They became Girls Aloud. They didn’t waste any time and released their debut single Sound of the Underground just three weeks after the show ended. It hit #1 on the UK singles charts and their debut album went platinum.

Girls Aloud became the UK’s biggest-selling girl group of the 21st century thanks to 20 of their songs making it to the top 10, 4 of which hit #1. Of course, there are many hot Girls Aloud songs I can post, but I’m going to go with my favorite, which was probably not the favorite of those who watched me shake my non-ass to it at gay bars in the early-aughts. And in the video, Sarah Harding brought IT with that glamour-fied Lime Cat ‘do.

Girls Aloud went on hiatus in 2009. They got back together for a 10th-anniversary tour but broke up for good in 2013. Beyond Girls Aloud, Sarah acted in St. Trinian’s, St. Trinian’s 2: The Legend of Fritton’s Gold, and 5 episodes of Coronation Street. She also went back to her reality TV roots by competing on Celebrity MasterChef and Celebrity Big Brother, which she won in 2017.

In 2011, after Sarah and her fiance DJ Tom Crane ended their four-year relationship, she went through it and ended up in rehab for depression and alcohol addiction. She called that time her rock bottom. And after rehab, she moved away from London and to the country where she lived with her dogs.

Sarah’s fellow Girls Aloud member Nadine Coyle paid tribute to her today:

Rest in peace, Sarah Harding.
