Here’s The Teaser Trailer For “Spencer” Starring Kristen Stewart As Princess Diana

Just one day after we all saw Kristen Stewart recreate Jennifer Lawrence’s Oscar fall on the poster for Spencer, they have released a teaser trailer for it. That still may look like it’s from a biopic about the Dutch Boy’s day as a fancy fisherman. But it’s Kristen Stewart as a sad and stressed-out Princess Diana in Spencer, which is out November 5.

According to IndieWire, unlike all of the other in-depth looks on what goes on behind the royal walls, director Pablo Larrain wanted to explore a small window of time in Diana’s life when she was forced to go to the worse work Happy Hour ever, spending three days with her royal in-laws and finally understanding that life as she knew it was about to become a living hell.

“It’s only three days of her life and in that very small amount of time, you’re able to get into a wider, bigger perspective of who she was. We all know her fate, what happened to her, and we don’t need to go there. We’ll stay in this more intimate space where she could express where she wants to go and who she wants to be.”

Spencer is a lot like Jackie, which Pablo also directed. Jackie starred Natalie Portman as Jackie Kennedy and it followed the days after the assassination of John F. Kennedy.

I don’t think we need any more reminders that Princess Diana’s life was a shit show surrounded by a supporting cast of cheating tricks and control freaks. But that’s what we’re getting. And KStew is more than up to the challenge, not that she would need to do too much in the form of range since sad looks and forlorn gazes are what her career has been built upon. But she stayed committed and wanted to ensure she did a great job because Princess Diana’s memory still haunts her to this day.

Stewart said she remains “viscerally affected” by images of Princess Diana’s funeral, which she remembers watching as a child. “The accent is intimidating as all hell because people know that voice, and it’s so, so distinct and particular,” Stewart said. “I’m working on it now and already have my dialect coach. In terms of research, I’ve gotten through two and a half biographies, and I’m finishing all the material before I actually go make the movie. It’s one of the saddest stories to exist ever, and I don’t want to just play Diana — I want to know her implicitly. I haven’t been this excited about playing a part, by the way, in so long.”

As for that accent, judge for it for yourself. After several shots of Kristen Stewart looking like she’s got a headache and constipation, she lets out that whispery accent. And no matter what you think of this teaser trailer, I think it’s safe to say that we’re all quoting the late great Aretha Franklin by saying, “Great gowns. Beautiful gowns.
