Meghan McCain Is Still Mad At Kathy Griffin For Making Jokes About Clay Aiken, But Clay Aiken Seems To Be Good

Every once in a while Meghan McCain does something that reminds me she does actually have a friend who could ask her, “Do you really want to do that with your hair?“, and this time she’s dragged her friend Clay Aiken into a situation he didn’t ask to be dragged into. On The View this week, Meghan took a swipe at Kathy Griffin, in response to Kathy’s recent lung cancer diagnosis reveal. Meghan is still very mad that Kathy made jokes about Clay’s sexuality years ago. Well, Meghan maybe should have run that all by Clay first, because Clay himself sent a message of love to Kathy.

Kathy’s cancer diagnosis, subsequent surgery, and her revelation of a 2020 suicide attempt and subsequent pill addiction were brought up during The View’s Hot Topics segment on Monday. Cancer and addiction are two things that would normally make a person strongly consider not saying anything at all in the event they knew they wouldn’t be able to say something nice. But not Meghan, apparently. Meghan’s father John McCain died from cancer, and even still, Meghan didn’t have much sympathy for Kathy. Meghan did say that it was tragic hearing about Kathy’s opioid addiction and it’s very scary to be diagnosed with cancer. But then Meghan accused Kathy of targeting a still-closeted Clay Aiken with homophobic jokes (Clay has been out since September 2008). via Page Six:

“I don’t like her, I’m never going to like her,” McCain had said of Griffin on Monday’s The View, citing her friendship with Aiken.

McCain claimed that Griffin made “very very very cruel and homophobic jokes” about Aiken “before he was out of the closet,” adding that she’s surprised her pal didn’t “end up becoming an opioid addict given the degree of bullying that happened to him when he was still struggling to come out of the closet.”

Here’s the clip:

No word if Meghan is also still mad at her own husband for making gay jokes about Seth Meyers. But it wasn’t just about Kathy making jokes about Clay Aiken 15 years ago. Meghan is also still very mad about that picture of Kathy holding a fake head that looked like Donald Trump because according to Meghan, it’s an insult to “our soldiers.

So Meghan fully established that she will not be collecting donations and doing any cancer awareness walks for Kathy’s fight. Clay Aiken, on the other hand, tweeted support for Kathy, along with a picture of them at the 2004 American Music Awards:

Whoopi Goldberg followed up Meghan’s comments with a defense of Kathy’s “misstep” with the Trump picture, and wished Kathy well. And former The View co-host Rosie O’Donnell reacted to Meghan’s segment by tweeting, “What’s wrong with u [Meghan]? She just announced she has lung cancer.” As for Kathy, her surgery to remove half of her left lung was a success, and she’s currently recovering.

We don’t know if Clay Aiken has spoken to his good friend Meghan about her mean-spirited rant from The View. But Clay is a polite southern gentleman, so I doubt he’ll drag her as publicly as Meghan dragged Kathy. At the very least, he should let Meghan know it was highly inappropriate of her to say those things out loud. Like publicly describing Clay as practically being like a brother to her? What did poor Clay Aiken do to deserve such embarrassment?
