Elton John Responded To DaBaby’s Homophobic Comments About HIV/AIDS

If there’s ever been a time to throw DaBaby out with DaBathwater it’s now. Earlier this week, the lil’est rapper of them all decided to make homophobia part of his official brand after he was criticized for his comments about HIV/AIDS and asked audience members who “ain’t sucking dick in the parking lot” to raise their lighters high during his performance at the Rolling Rock festival in Miami. After spending the last couple of days stirring the pot and doubling down on the ignorance and hate, Sir Elton John was finally made aware of his existence and responded on Twitter. Elton posted a 5-part thread condemning “the HIV misinformation and homophobic statements made at a recent DaBaby show.” Sadly, it was a pretty tame retort considering that Sir Elton is in possession of the greatest collection of reading glasses the world has ever seen!

It’s a good thing he didn’t read him while wearing a pair of those novelty-sized rhinestone numbers from the 70s or else somebody was gonna have had to call CPS on Elton’s ass! Wait, what am I talking about? It would have been incredible! According to USA Today, who coincidentally, also just found out who DaBaby is:

Elton John is weighing in on the growing controversy surrounding rapper DaBaby’s homophobic comments during a recent music festival performance.

Among other derogatory remarks made during his set at the Miami festival Rolling Loud Sunday, per video provided by TMZ, DaBaby, born Jonathan Lyndale Kirk, told the audience to raise their cellphone flashlights in the air “if you didn’t show up today with HIV/AIDS or any of them deadly sexually transmitted diseases that will make you die in two to three weeks.”

In response, John criticized the rapper for spreading misinformation and took to Twitter to debunk these “myths and judgements” to raise awareness about the AIDS epidemic.

Here’s Elton’s tweet in easier-to-read Instagram format:

Madonna should be thanking her Lucky Star she worked on the version of Dua Lipa’s Levitating remix with Missy Elliot instead of the one with DaBaby or we might have 30 more years of feuding ahead of us. Dua has since said she’s “horrified” by DaBaby’s comments. (via Variety)

“I’m surprised and horrified at DaBaby’s comments,” Lipa wrote on her Instagram story. “I really don’t recognize this as the person I worked with. I know my fans know where my heart lies and that I stand 100% with the LGBTQ community. We need to come together to fight the stigma and ignorance around HIV/AIDS.”

Later Tuesday, without responding to Lipa specifically, DaBaby took to Twitter to offer an apology for his comments, albeit in a begrudging-sounding manner that stopped well short of mollifying all of his LGBTQ-supportive critics.

Hey, at least somebody threw a shoe at him! And he has been dropped from a BoohooMAN campaign. (via Yahoo! News)

Disgusting homophobia aside, I’m still hung up on the logical fallacy of DaBaby’s original directive that persons not sucking dick in the parking lot should raise their lighters. Like how are you supposed to hold up your lighter inside the venue if you’re outside in the parking lot sucking dick? Makes about as much sense as a grown man named Jonathan Kirk going around on penis patrol while wearing a diaper and calling himself DaBaby.
