Open Post: Hosted By Lemurs Having A Popsicle Party

July 25, 2021 / Posted by:

Since lemurs are native to Madagascar, they don’t spend much time on the usual pap stroll, but their days are clearly way more interesting than those of just about anyone we talk about here, so this egregious omission is being remedied immediately! We did give lemurs a shout-out last month when noting they’d been in charge of expertly applying Marilyn Manson‘s lipstick, and then way back in 2013, when they were about to be ravenously consumed by David Hasselhoff‘s terrifyingly carnivorous face, so they haven’t been totally ignored around here.

Today, Nerdist brings us both ring-tailed and red-ruffed (these sound like painful conditions you’d need medicated ointment for after doing too much butt stuff) lemurs feasting on icy, refreshing rainbow popsicles and showing us all how to properly achieve peak summer.

via Nerdist:

We have Laughing Squid to thank for directing us to the video. And we have the good people at the Oregon Zoo to thank for putting the production together in the first place. As for whom to thank for lemurs, that’s between you and whatever grander belief system you subscribe to.

The video’s accompanying text gives us a little insight into the critters we see onscreen. Both ring-tailed and red ruffed lemurs are present and accounted for. Per the Oregon Zoo: Ring-tailed lemurs are ravenous omnivores, enjoying leaves, fruits, insects, and small birds and reptiles; red ruffed lemurs eat fruit and nectar, and pollinate their ecosystems by couriering pollen on their noses.

Here are both types of lemurs having a go at the popsicles:

Their faces have a naturally hyper-vigilant look, like that of any animal dubiously entrusted to the care of, say, Lena Dunham, but clearly, they’re in much more capable hands here and making all of their zoo-mates jealous of their afternoon snack.
