Sean Penn Won’t Return To The Set Of His New Series “Gaslit” Until Everyone Is Vaccinated

Hollywood has been back to work for a while because there are only so many times people stuck at home can re-watch The Office or suffer through the horny drunks on Love Island. But there are certain rules cast and crew have to follow to make sure the set they’re working on doesn’t end up with the headline: “Lights, Camera…COVID? Movie Set Turns Into Super Spreader Event.” Some famous actors are really into those rules, like Tom Cruise, who cussed out the crew of Mission: Impossible VII when he saw them disrespecting social distancing rules. Notorious ragerĀ Sean Penn definitely seems like the type who would fully lose his shit over COVID protocols, but he’s not even going to let it get to that point, because Sean Penn has declared that he won’t be gracing any unvaccinated co-workers with his presence.

Sean Penn is currently working on the Starz limited series Gaslit, which covers the Watergate scandal and co-stars Julia Roberts, Dan Stevens, and Betty Gilpin. Pre-COVID, the biggest workplace issue the cast and crew of Gaslit might have been concerned with was making sure no one lit a match on set (if it’s set in the 70s, you know there’s going to be an aggressive amount of highly flammable aerosol setting spray). But in this post-COVID world, a lot of people are concerned with making sure everyone has gotten their shots, to protect themselves from the virus. via Deadline:

In a move that likely will reverberate across an industry still trying to deal with Covid, Penn is refusing to return to work on Gaslit until everyone on the production has been vaccinated for the virus. With the highly contagious Delta variant raging enough that Los Angeles has re-imposed indoor mask wearing and cases among the unvaccinated are spiking again at alarming levels across the country, Penn has insisted to the production that the vaccination of everyone must be mandatory. Through his organization, CORE, Penn has offered to facilitate the vaccination effort, free of charge.

NBCUniversal, who produces the show, recently sent out an email to cast and crew in “Zone A” – aka a designation given to people who will be working in close contact with each other. The email reportedly stated that if you fall into Zone A, you better have gotten your ass vaccinated, or you better be lining up to get one. NBCUniversal stated that a vaccine clinic would be on-site for those who needed it and that it would return should cast and crew need a second dose.

It’s really funny how things have changed before and after COVID. Sean Penn was still giving out free shots before COVID. And they were the type that also made you feel like shit the next day. But they weren’t administered by a health professional with vaccine training, and it usually ended with the recipient filing a police report.
