Anne Hathaway’s Ex, Raffaello Follieri, Said She Ghosted After He Was Arrested For Fraud In 2008

Raffaello Follieri is a name you probably haven’t heard in a while if ever at all. The 43-year-old real estate developer dated 38-year-old Anne Hathaway from 2004 to 2008 when they suddenly ended things. At the time, Raffaello had been arrested for fraud and Anne was a budding A-lister, so clearly she had to drop his ass like a hot potato. And she sure did! Raffaello told The Daily Mail that the night of his arrest was the last time he spoke to Anne and she said she loved him. Once he was arrested, she left his ass in the dust after four years together without so much as a “Goodbye.” And to that, I say: “Good for her.” Ladies, if you want to ghost someone after they commit a felony, go right ahead. Something Camille Cosby should learn.

Page Six says that Anne and Raffaello met in 2004 through mutual friends at a dinner and went on to date for four years. Right after his arrest, an interview Anne did with InStyle came out and she talked about being in love with Raffaello. Welp! Things obviously didn’t turn out well, and she would later tell W Magazine that Raffaello’s arrest was like having “the rug… pulled out from under me all of a sudden.” She allegedly was so distressed she spent “a week in shock at a friend’s house” after it all went down.

And equally shocked was Raffaello who never heard from Anne again after he was arrested. Raffaello was accused of scamming up to $6 million from investors as he posed as a top Vatican official. He pleaded guilty and spent almost five years in prison before being deported back to Italy. He has been banned from re-entering the US again. I can’t imagine why Anne would miss out on all that fun! He told The Daily Mail:

“That night Annie phoned me from Los Angeles where she was doing press. We were on the phone for 10 minutes talking about when she might come home… If I remember, Annie’s last words were “I love you forever” and we ended the call. That was 2 a.m. on June 24, 2008… At 6 a.m. I was arrested. I never spoke to Annie again.”

And Anne really cut the cord hard:

“Never, never, never… I think she made a business decision. She decided saving her career was most important. I am not bitter. You can look in my eyes. I don’t have anger but I’ve been hurt.”

“I’m not bitter,” he said to a publication. Raffaello can join the “I Was Ghosted By A Famous Hot Lady” club with other A-class, romantic, stand-up guys like Sean Penn and Drake. And if Raffaello is still hurt that Anne ghosted him after his arrest, imagine how upset the people whose money he made disappear are.
