Caitlyn Jenner Has Hired A Camera Crew To Follow Her Around The Campaign Trail

Back in April, Caitlyn Jenner dropped some news that instantly lowered the temperature of Hell a few degrees: she would be running for Governor of California as a Republican, in an attempt to de-seat current incumbent, Governor Gavin Newsom. Caitlyn is running on a platform of “Gavin Newsom BAD” and “Ew, un-wealthy people!. And despite the fact that pretty much all her family members are avoiding her calls when it comes to this campaign, she’s still chugging along, full speed ahead. But just because none of her kids or step-kids will be joining her on the campaign trail doesn’t mean they won’t get to see what it was like. According to a campaign spokesperson, Caitlyn has hired a camera crew to follow her around and document Cait’s gubernatorial dreams.

Rumors of a camera crew documenting this train wreck were confirmed by one of Caitlyn’s campaign spokespeople to The Hollywood Reporter, after several sources claimed they’d seen Caitlyn being followed by a camera crew at several campaign events. For example, Caitlyn was seen being trailed by cameras at a CPAC conference, and during an an appearance with Fox News’ Sean Hannity. According to Politico, Caitlyn is paying for the crew herself, and can do whatever she wants with the footage when she’s done.

Looking ahead to life after the trail, Jenner has been paying them to collect footage of her time running for office. And after the campaign she can do whatever she wants with it – sell it to Netflix for a documentary, perhaps, or to E! for another Kardashian reality series. (Nothing like that is in the works yet; we’re just throwing out a few scenarios.) “We’re documenting history,” a senior campaign adviser explained.

You might not be surprised by the news that Caitlyn has paid for a camera crew to follow her around and silently cringe every time someone asks her about homeless people, and that would be because Caitlyn loves attention. Listen, I’m no scientist, but you don’t spend more than a decade on a reality television show without your DNA being permanently altered in a way that you get an instant serotonin boost every time a production assistant clips a mic pack to the back of your pants.

But according to The Hollywood Reporter, Caitlyn’s motivations aren’t completely famewhore-related. They point out that tons of political candidates hire camera crews to document their campaigns, then later use the footage for documentaries. For example, last year Hulu released a four-part docuseries titled Hillary, which was all about Hillary Clinton’s 2016 Presidential campaign. Earlier this year, Amazon announced a deal to stream Mayor Pete, which was about Pete Buttigieg’s Democratic primary campaign. So, it’s not totally crazy that Caitlyn would document her race to the California governor’s mansion.

California’s recall election isn’t happening until September 14th of this year, so Caitlyn should have more than enough footage for a docuseries or even a reality show, should she so choose to go that route (possible title suggestion: The Amazingly Tone-Deaf Race). Let’s put on our optimist hats and look on the bright side here. Caitlyn is creating jobs, right? Also, having Caitlyn followed around with live cameras recording her every move isn’t a bad idea. It’s always a good to have plenty of footage shot from multiple angles, should Caitlin somehow find herself in a the kind of situation that would need proof of who was at fault.
