Nicolas Cage Brought His Wife To The Red Carpet For His New Movie “Pig” And Announced His “Tiger King” Show Isn’t Happening

It’s a good thing Nicolas Cage was probably going to use his own wardrobe anyway for his portrayal of Joe Exotic in the series for Amazon that was announced last year. Variety reports that that project has been cancelled so Nic will just have to find another excuse to bust out the sequin blouses and leather fringe. Unfortunately they didn’t make an appearance at last night’s premiere of his latest movie Pig. Nic kept things shockingly demure when he and his 5th wife, 26-year-old Riko Shabata, made their red carpet debut as man and wife. I don’t know which is more shocking, that he dressed like a normie, or that he has managed to stay married for 4 whole months! He even washed and pressed his good rug for the occasion. It must be true love.

Nic spoke to Variety about the demise of his Joe Exotic project. Predictably, people’s interest has waned since the vaccine for Tiger King Fever was introduced. Most of us were inoculated back in October when Ryan Seacrest and Kelly Rippa shared the same busted Tiger King wig. And we got our booster shot just yesterday when we saw John Cameron Mitchell wearing it too.

The Oscar-winning actor, who is currently earning rave reviews for his performance in “Pig,” revealed that he is no longer scheduled to play the “Tiger King” in a series from Amazon, which, he implied, has been shelved for now. Sources close to the situation say the project, produced by Imagine and CBS Studios, inspired by the Netflix docu-series “Tiger King: Murder, Mayhem and Madness,” may be shopped to other outlets. Streamer Peacock has its own narrative take on the “Tiger King” story with Kate McKinnon and John Cameron Mitchell on board to star.

“We should clear the record,” Cage told Variety. “I read two excellent scripts, which I did think were excellent, but I think Amazon ultimately felt that it was material that had become past tense because it took so long for it come together. They felt at one point that it was lightning in a bottle, but that point has since faded into the distance and it’s no longer relevant.”

Here’s Nic talking about it on the red carpet plus some shots from the premiere which for some reason was also attended by Kesha and Kesha’s Butt Cheeks. The Daily Mail appropriately kept that same chaotic energy in their description of Nic saying he “looked dapper in a grey suit over a white button-up and glossy dress shoes,” before being sure to remind us of the all important fact that he is “known to wear hairpieces” and that he “matched his necktie to his God-given baby blues.

And here’s the trailer for Pig which is about “a former celebrity chef who leads a hermetic life. His isolation ends after his truffle hunting pig is kidnapped,” so like John Wick with chef knives instead of guns.

Unlike some of his most recent films, Pig is actually getting very good reviews. In an interview with GQ, Nic talked about some of his earliest food memories that helped to inform his performance.

Even weirder still, this is one of my earliest memories: my father had taken all of us to Italy and I was about four. For whatever the reason, he had left me with all these nuns. The rest of the family had gone out. They’d given me this very spicy kind of stew and this very fermented drink that tasted like licorice. I remember having that and then the nuns rocking me on a bed to get me to sleep. Later my father said to me, “that was fox stew and they were giving you anisette drink to help you sleep.” So those were my earliest memories and you can see how profound the culinary element brings me right back.

Drugged and rocked to sleep by nuns with a belly full of wild canid. And we wonder why is like he is!
