Prince William Denounced “Racist Abuse” Against Black Football Players After England’s European Championship Loss

Prince William may not have participated in THAT conversation, but it looks like he is ready to have a different one where he acknowledges that racism in Britain actually exists. From the official Twitter account for The Duke and Duchess of Cambridge, William tweeted that he is “sickened” by the “racist abuse” directed at the Black players on England’s soccer team after they lost to Italy in last night’s European Championship final. Just think how differently things might have worked between him and his brother Prince Harry had Meghan Markle just put on some knee pads and led the country to its “first international finals appearance in more than 50 years” (via NPR). William and Harry might be on much better terms now had William been sickened by racist abuse a little sooner.

If I fooled you into thinking I know a single goddamned thing about soccer above, let me disavow you of that now. According to NPR, they call the sport Ted Lasso coaches “football” over there and there was a big game of it yesterday held at the stadium Queen had that concert at that one time. England lost and three Black players who missed their penalty kicks, Marcus Rashford, Jadon Sancho and Bukayo Saka, were immediately met with a torrent of racist abuse in the stadium and online. That is until the least racist monarch you’ll ever meet stepped up to express his dismay.

Damn, William’s not even king yet and he’s already giving orders. Prime Minister Boris Johnson is shook. Maybe that’s why he also felt the need to pipe in and condemn the “appalling abuse,” despite the fact that he “previously refused to condemn England fans who booed the players taking a knee in solidarity with the Black Lives Matter movement,” according to The Daily Beast. If you don’t want to listen to the bald one with the crown, maybe you’ll listen to the sloppy one who always looks like a seagull just landed on his head.

Here’s what Prince William and Duchess Kate look like when they’re sickened by racist abuse. Every time someone in his family has that OTHER conversation, he dies a little inside.
