Blake Shelton Wrote A Song For Gwen Stefani Instead Of Wedding Vows

Oh wow, more details about Gwen Stefani and Blake Shelton’s celebrity soulmate wedding. These two got hitched in Oklahoma over the Fourth of July weekend because ‘MURICA! And yesterday, People Magazine released a bunch of photos. Now Carson Daly, who officiated that shit like it was a very special episode of The Voice, has gone on NBC’s Today to share exclusive wedding deets. He reveals that Gwen read her own vows and Blake rudely one-upped her by performing a special song he wrote called, “Reach the Star” (owwww, my eyes rolled back too far!). And even though the wedding sounds like it was sponsored by NBC Universal, the couple’s former The Voice co-star Adam Levine was not in attendance. Hopefully, someone else stepped in to fill the role of “douchebag who hits on all the bridesmaids.”

Carson says Blake, 45, and Gwen, 51, are an unlikely pair, but they work, via Today:

They’re like if you paired delicious fried chicken with a glass of champagne. On paper, on the menu, it doesn’t seem to work, but it works. They’re comfort food with class, and everybody roots for that.”

Carson also takes credit for their vows:

“I went to them months ago and said, ‘I think you guys should write your own vows. We shouldn’t just do the repeat after me,'” Carson recalled. “They were really reluctant to do that, but … it’s two of the best songwriters in the world, we want to hear your words.”

“At the wedding, Gwen starts, and she wrote this, ‘Since I was a little girl …’ And she crushes, not a dry eye in the church. … It was so perfect,” Carson continued. “I said to Blake when she was done, ‘Top that, buddy.’ And Blake starts by saying, ‘Gwen’s always giving me a hard time about not writing enough songs, so I wrote a song.’

“Guitar comes in frame, stool, next thing you know, he wrote her a song, he sings her a song while he’s crying that he wrote specifically for her. … Not a dry eye in the house.”

Carson says he doesn’t know if Blake will release the vows song, but he thinks it could be a major hit. Ummmm… could it though? Because I can’t name you one single Blake Shelton bop, and all I do is hang out in deep celebrity corners of the Internet and listen to trash Top 40.

Here’s Carson Daly on Today:

And here are some MORE wedding pics that Gwen posted on her Instagram:

We’ve heard about this relationship, the engagement, Gwen’s Catholic annulment, and the wedding planning for what seemed like forever. So I’m gonna guess the post-wedding details will take us into the next century. Hell, they’ll probably produce their own twelve-part docuseries titled Gwen & Blake’s Wedding: Fried Chicken n’ Champagne. Premiering right after The Voice, only on NBC!
