Some people may think Florence Pugh and Zach Braff’s relationship is gross, but I say it’s beautiful and refreshing. More fathers and daughters should publicly express their love for one another and not worry about — wait, what? They’re LOVERS?! But he’s 46! And she’s 25! She was in kindergarten when Scrubs premiered in 2001! Aaaand scene.
The above paragraph is the type of shit that pisses Florence Pugh right off. She’s been extremely vocal about how she doesn’t think anybody has the right to talk about her relationship, specifically her and Zach’s age difference. And after more than two years of dating, she’s still talking about it. In a new interview with The Sunday Times, Florence theorizes that her relationship “bugs people” because it’s “not who they expected” her to date. Yep, that’s the reason we’re weirded out. Ya got us, Flo.
Florence says, via People:
Asked if she thinks fans would rather her date someone like her Little Women costar Timothée Chalamet, the star replied, “Exactly.”
“But it’s my life and I’m not doing anything to please people or to make it a better headline or story. I want to also be a person!” she said.
“It’s so weird to me to go on to someone’s page and shit on it,” Pugh told the Times of receiving online hate. “That’s so not my nature — to go and bully for the sake of bullying. It’s such an odd thing that we’ve become OK with in the past ten years of social media.”
“The thing is, people want Instagram to be a nicer place, they want to see nice things,” she continued. “They want to be inspired and they want to be happy. I don’t mind you not liking me, that’s absolutely fine. In which case don’t follow me.”
I don’t blame Florence. She was only 23 when she started dating Zach, and everybody knows ya can’t tell a 23-year-old shit. But when she gets older she may realize that the middle-aged Zach Braff-types who go after much younger ladies are the ones who don’t wanna be challenged by women their own age. But maybe my 30-something ass is being too cynical. Maybe Florence Pugh and J.D. from Scrubs are soulmates. After all, age ain’t nothing but a number, just like Aaliyah sang! Now, did she write those lyrics herself, or…? Oh… never mind.
