Iggy Azalea Denies Accusations Of Blackfishing In Her Video For “I Am The Stripclub”

Iggy Azalea is no stranger to talk of appropriation, and while she thinks it’s a subjective topic, many do not. And Iggy has been called out yet again after she released the video for her song I Am The Stripclub, which features a scene where it looks like she just graduated from Kim Kardashian’s Kommunity Kollege of Blackfishing. Iggy looks more like what you’d get if you ordered Amber Rose from the clearance section of Wish.com with a touch of bootleg Christina Aguilera (Just call her Iggylera). But not so fast, people! According to Iggy and her makeup artist, it’s the lighting!

Here’s the video which also features the ballroom house The House of Balmain:

E! News says that once the video came out, so too did the accusations of blackfishing. People online commented on the similarities between Iggy’s black-wigged look and the Kim Kardashian-aesthetic which is carefully shaped, waxed, tanned, and transmuted wholly natural and unique.

Iggy’s fans were ready to defend her though, bringing up pictures of her outside of the dimly lit back of the truck:

Iggy’s makeup artist, Eros, hopped online to defend Iggy with some hardcore evidence, saying she was using a Giorgio Armani Luminous Silk concealer. I looked it up, and if we’re to believe them then it’s a “medium, olive” which does not really qualify as blackface. The real shock here is that it’s $80 a pop.

I mean, okay, but T.I. has said that Iggy switched it up for white folks. So shouldn’t she be doing Taylor Swift drag instead? And if Iggy did in fact do some blackfishing, this will only make things even more strained between her and Bhad Bhabie. There’s only room for one blackfishing female rapper in the game!
