Courtney Love Accuses Olivia Rodrigo Of Shamelessly Copying Hole’s “Live Through This” Cover

It was just a second ago when Courtney Love was once again shitting all over Dave Grohl over Nirvana royalties and accusing Trent Reznor of abusing underage girls (Courtney later apologized). Well, 56-year-old Courtney Love has now aimed her compact and thrown it at 18-year-old crooner Olivia Rodrigo. After Olivia posted a promo image of her as a crying prom queen, Courtney Love let her know that if the whole “selling tons of albums” shit doesn’t work out for her, she should get a job at FedEx Office since she’s a master at copying.
To further push her debut album, Sour, Olivia is doing a prom-themed concert on YouTube, and to promote that, she posted a picture of her as a prom queen with the sads. When Courtney Love saw it, she nearly dialed 911 to report that little Rodrigoyoncé of blatant thievery! Because when Courtney looked at Olivia’s crying prom queen pic, she saw a Disney Jr. version of Hole’s Live Through This cover. The Live Through This cover was shot by Ellen von Unwerth. Courtney tweeted this shady note, and she made sure to cover all of her social media bases because she posted the same note on Instagram and Facebook. Courtney didn’t dare post it on TikTok and probably because even she knows that the toddlers of TikTok would devour her whole for hating on their Gen Z pop princess:
Spot the difference! #twinning! 🥸😉👸👸 @Olivia_Rodrigo https://t.co/6EXiYjNxuA

For comparison, here’s Hole’s crying beauty pageant queen picture alongside Olivia Rodrigo’s crying prom queen picture:
Courtney didn’t stop there. Courtney Love has the time because she fought with people who defended Olivia on Facebook. When someone pointed out that Courtney Love is not the inventor of the crying prom (or beauty pageant) queen and that the Live Through This cover was inspired by Carrie, Courtney slammed a trick, claimed her idea was 100% original, and also brought up Britney Spears’ conservatorship fight:
….as stated in another comment . “ carrie” is an entirely different concept to my original idea . I nade that so clear at the time . Don’t dare gate keep my life . Especially as I’m luckily still alive to correct your presumption . Based on ? Pigs blood ? I don’t copy .
don’t dare gatekeep me . I’m alive . And not in a c ship . It WAS IN FACT AN ORIGINAL IDEA! No one had done “ it “. I pride myself on having them . X
Another person told Courtney that artists steal from each other all the time, so Courtney should be flattered that the youth is inspired by Hole. But Courtney continued to be saltier than the Red Sea and went on about how Olivia needs to take a class on manners since it was rude not to ask for permission to use her “original idea.”
Stealing an original idea and not asking permission is rude. There’s no way to be elegant about it . I’m not angry . It happens all the time to me . And he really I’m very gracious or say nothing . But this was bad form . That’s not bullying or bomb throwing . This persons music has nothing to do with my life . Possibly never will . It was rude And I gave every right to stick up for my work . Don’t gatekeep me ! I’m honorable as fuck to my fellow artists , and I expect the same .
But Courtney did have some people on her side, and when one praised Courtney’s version for being better and dragged Olivia for being an emotionless waif, Courtney said that she has no idea what the kids are into nowadays:
I don’t know kids stuff . But I think waif is the appeal ? No idea .
After fighting in her Facebook comments, Courtney finally said she shouldn’t be on the internet right now (“AGREED!” – the internet) and added that she’s honestly just really tired and saddened by the Britney situation:
it’s ok . I shouldn’t even be online . You know when you get snappy cranky with this online shit ? More combative . Etc ? They’re fucking with our brains man . If I was online all the time ? I might start thinking q was a real person too ! #getoffline and thanks . I’m just absolutely exhausted freaked out and saddened by the spears thing and I’m trying to get away from it now . Xx
Olivia (or Olivia’s PR team) chimed in and decided to not directly address Courtney’s accusations of thievery and instead praised her and Live Through This. But Courtney is still waiting for a thank you note and flowers, via Popcrave:
No, seriously, Courtney is waiting for those flowers, because she went back to Facebook to continue to call out one of Mickey Mouse’s ex-moneymakers for being rude:
I’ve informed her I await her flowers snd note . I sure hope it’s long . Does Disney teach kids reading and writing ? God knows. Let’s see . Yes this is rude. Rage inducing ? Honey if I had a dollar for everyone this happens ? I’d be real rich !
On one hand, Olivia is obviously inspired by 90s grunge and was most likely paying homage to Live Through This. On the other hand, this isn’t that serious and Courtney Love missed an opportunity to get some Gen Z coins by pitching a collab with Olivia Rodrigo! But still, I’m going to need Sandy Dumbrowski from Grease to stand up and check both Courtney and Olivia since SHE invented sadness on prom night:
And then the ghost of a sad prom queen from the 1960s will stand up to slap down Sandy for stealing from her, and then the ghost of a sad prom queen circa 3000 BC from Mesopotamia High will stand up to slap down that sad 1960s prom queen, etc, etc…
