Open Post: Hosted By The Trailer For That Movie Where Taryn Manning Plays A “Karen”

It was announced last year that newly engaged Taryn Manning will be playing the Karen of all Karens in a horror movie. Well, a trailer is out for Karen and it looks like Ma meets Obsessed meets Get Out meets a Tyler Perry original. You’ll be shocked to learn Tyler Perry had nothing to do with it. And still: IT IS A MESS. Overly-dramatic, racially-charged, logically confusing; its trailer has now been released and the BET original movie looks an absolute shoo-in for next year’s Razzies.

Taryn previously spoke to TMZ about how she wants this new role to be a symbol of what white women should not do because she’s tired of the actions of Karens putting minorities at risk. Director, Coke Daniels, agreed, saying he wants the movie to show how “outrageous micro-aggressions lead to racism, hate, and violence.” Here they are talking to TMZ:

Is racism solved after seeing this trailer? No. Am I cackling? ‘Lil bit. The movie is about a couple, played by Jasmine Burke and Cory Hardrict, who move into a new town and their neighbor seems to be an evil racist who may be trying to get them killed. This is called a teaser, but I mean we see everything: bad acting, racist police, calling the cops on teens at a park, nosey neighbors, a Confederate flag soap dispenser–it has it all!

If this truly wants to be emblematic of what it means to be a Karen among human society then there is going to have to be a scene where she’s berating an employee for something which is completely out of their control. If there isn’t a scene where Taryn Manning is screeching at a flight attendant about why she can’t stop a rain delay and then asks to speak to Mother Nature’s manager, then this cannot be called a true Karen movie.

But something is off about Taryn’s Karen. I think it’s the hair. They should have gotten Kate Gosselin to be a hairstyle consultant on the project. Give it some real authenticity.
