Whoopi Goldberg And Meghan McCain Got Into A Very Messy Fight On “The View,” Which Ended In A Joint Apology

That look of pure exasperation on Whoopi Goldberg’s face can only mean one of two things: the dry cleaners way over-starched her favorite white dress shirt (“I said light starch! Whoopi is a casual woman!“), or she’s been trapped in a messy on-air argument with Meghan McCain again. Today on The View, Meghan turned up her patented brand of adult brattiness, except this time, her usual favorite target Joy Behar was spared, and Whoopi was caught in the line of fire instead. It got so bad, both women had to offer up an awkward, uncomfortable apology afterward. Ironic, considering their whole fight actually started because of a fight about apologies.
A few weeks ago, Meghan was reportedly hauled into the office of ABC News president Kim Godwin to discuss her and Joy’s on-air conduct, specifically how the two got into a petty fight and viewers complained. Meghan might have felt guilty about turning every episode of The View into a high school parking lot fight, had she not allegedly stormed out of the meeting after feeling “attacked.” That leads us to today’s episode. During Hot Topics, they discussed the drama surrounding President Joe Biden’s recent press conference in Geneva, in which he snapped at a question asked by CNN reporter Kaitlan Collins. Joe Biden apologized to Kaitlan not long afterward. Whoopi noted that she appreciated having a president that apologizes and that she’s not sure Donald Trump ever apologized for anything during his four years in the White House. That’s when Meghan, apropos of nothing besides an unquenchable thirst to make everything about HER, jumped in and shit all over Whoopi’s appreciation for that apology. via Deadline:
When Goldberg began to counter that Biden made a very un-Trump-like apology, McCain interrupted by saying, “With all due respect I don’t care if he’s apologizing.”
Goldberg, visibly perturbed by the interruption, responded, “I don’t care that you don’t care,” to which McCain shot back, “Well I don’t care that you don’t care, Whoopi, so we’re even.”
“Well good, Meghan,” snapped Goldberg, “then you can be how you always are.”
“You can be how you always are,” said McCain.
Here’s the clip:
"Well good Meghan, then you can be how you always are!"#TheView devolved into a shouting match during a segment on the #BidenPutinSummit, with both Whoopi Goldberg and Meghan McCain telling the other, "I don't care that you don't care!" pic.twitter.com/PUTucEffJE

I’m going to guess that during the commercial break, Whoopi and Meghan received an angry phone call from the people in charge, telling them to kiss and make up quickly. Because both apologized after the commercial break and it was just as awkward:
The show then went to a commercial break, after which Goldberg apologized for being “rude,” with McCain doing the same. “I want to apologize because I was rude,” Goldberg said. “I didn’t need to say what I said and I apologize because that’s not the way I want to behave at work.”
“Well I apologize too Whoopi,” McCain said.
“Cool,” responded Goldberg.
Cool! That’s extremely mature and cool of Whoopi to end it with a simple, “Cool,” when Whoopi was more than justified in hissing back, “Bitch, take your insincere apology and stuff it in one of your busted hair-dos.” But there’s another person in this situation who is likely apologizing, and it’s Lena Dunham. She’s probably very sorry Meghan chose today of all days to snarl at Whoopi. Meghan’s daisy dress above? That’s the dress from Lena’s plus-size clothing line. Hissing at a legend while wearing one of Lena’s designs is probably not the kind of free publicity Lena wanted. She just couldn’t have fought Whoopi in some Torrid or Loud Bodies, could she?
