Grimes Tried To Explain Why AI Technology Is Good For Communism, Subsequently Proved She Doesn’t Know What Communism Is

If you were hoping for someone to explain the concept of communism in a way that is even more confusing than the pronunciation of the name X ร† A-12 Musk, well I have some good news for you. Grimes herself is here to do it! Does Grimes have any formal education in political science? No, she’s a college dropout who makes alien birthday party music. But, she used to fancy herself as anti-imperialist back in the day, before she started dating tech billionaire and alleged union hater Elon Musk, so she clearly knows just enough to fake it on TikTok. Like the word “communism,” for starters. And…that’s actually all she really seems to know if that TikTok is any proof.

Fans of Grimes have operated under the assumption that their otherworldly high-pitched queen was some kind of hammer and sickle-wielding anti-capitalist who was for workers’ rights and division of wealth, likely due to several factors. Like quoting Stalin in her high school yearbook, or the aforementioned note in her Twitter bio about being anti-imperialist.

But then she started dating Elon Musk, and she’s been doing the absolute most to make him seem likable to her fans. Which hasn’t always worked out, considering Elon Musk is a wealth-hoarder who wants to colonize another planet, and he’s repeatedly put his non-union workers at risk. Before we get any further, let’s establish that a very simple definition of communism is for the workers to control the means of productions. Okay, with that out of the way, people who subscribe to the idea of communism might have a problem with artificial intelligence technology, or AI, because automation is an easy way for the people in charge to cut corners, avoid paying workers a livable wage, skirt union protections, and generally make more money for themselves. But! That’s not so, says Grimes! I’ll allow her to explain. via The AV Club:

“I have a proposition for the communists. So typically, most of the communists I know are not big fans of A.I. But, if you think about it, A.I. is actually the fastest path to communism. So, if implemented correctly, A.I. could actually theoretically solve for abundance. Like, we could totally get to a situation where nobody has to work; everybody is provided for with a comparable state of being, comfortable living. A.I. could automate all the farming, we could out systematic corruption, thereby bringing us as close as possible to genuine equality. So basically, everything that everybody loves about communism, but without the collective farm. Cause, letโ€™s be real, enforced farming is really not a vibe.”

Here’s Grimes looking like someone got drunk and sloppy with the stamps on a What’s Her Face doll:

As I, a dummy with but one public high school political science class under my belt, explained above, communism isn’t the dream of a utopia where everyone is on a forever vacation. It’s an ideology in which workers control the means of production, with common ownership, and the absence of social classes, making it impossible for rich people to exploit the poor. If only there was a wealthy, worker-exploiting imperialist she could ask about all of this? Of course, people started roasting her up on Twitter, regardless of how not a vibe forced farming is.

And when directly called out in the comment of her TikTok, Grimes tried to play it off as a joke, before turning around and suggesting that communist and tech bros join hands in harmony:

Elon hasn’t responded to Grimes yet on Twitter, his preferred platform. But once he watches the video and sees her extending an olive branch to all the communists out there, I’m sure he’ll collapse on the nearest chair with a terrible feeling in the pit of his stomach. I won’t be surprised if he copies one of her old tweet messages to him, begging her to please turn off her phone, and that he cannot support such hate.
