Widow Von’Du Of “RuPaul’s Drag Race” Was Arrested On Domestic Violence Charges

There’s some more RuPaul’s Drag Race-related news, but this news is a lot lot messier than the reveal of the All-Stars 6 cast. Widow Von’Du, whose government name is Ray Fry, was on season 12 of Drag Race and placed 7th. But it looks like she’s a shoo-in for first place at the Jackson County Correctional Ball because she’s been arrested for assault charges after allegedly attacking her boyfriend in her house. But some fans have accused Widow’s ex of past toxic behavior and believe this is a frame-job. Yup, much, much, much messier.
TMZ reports that Widow was arrested and booked on Monday in Jackson County, Missouri after a warrant for her arrest was issued. Her boyfriend (who was not named) accused Widow of coming home drunk and getting angry that he was there. Things allegedly escalated pretty quickly from there:
According to the probable cause affidavit, obtained by TMZ, Von’Du came home early Friday morning in what her boyfriend described to cops as an intoxicated state … and was apparently upset when she found her BF sleeping there, even though the boyfriend says he’d notified her he was gonna crash.
The BF went on to tell police that what happened next was nothing short of a vicious beatdown — claiming Von’Du proceeded to punch his face 4 to 5 times, strangle him, drag him across the floor and eventually push him into a bed frame … which the BF says knocked him unconscious after he hit his head, making him bleed profusely.
Eventually, Von’Du’s boyfriend said he was able to escape, found help and was hospitalized … where the report notes he needed 14 stitches in his face and head. The cops say they saw the BF’s injuries and, after a preliminary investigation, found probable cause to get an arrest warrant for Von’Du.
The cops say they tracked Von’Du down on Monday and took her into custody … where she posed for this mug. We’re told she was kept on a 24-hour hold, and that her bond was set at $50k. She’s facing 1st and 2nd-degree domestic assault charges.

TMZ also notes that on an Instagram Live, Widow reportedly said: “Some White boy tried me and got his ass beat.” Which was not a great choice, evidence-wise. And then fellow drag queen, Cynthia Doll, posted a video to Twitter showing when Widow was arrested outside a club on Monday night. In the video, Widow claimed she was defending herself and was getting arrested because she’s Black. via Screenrant:
“They are taking me down because I was assaulted in my apartment as someone else would not understand that his privilege does not extend to my apartment,” Ray started. When a person asked him to explain himself further, Ray added: “As a Black man in this city, I am being arrested for defending myself in my apartment. And just because his ass got beat up because he would not leave when I asked five times, I’m being arrested.” The video then concluded with Ray saying, “So what I want everyone to see is that I am being arrested right now for defending myself in my apartment instead of someone being arrested for violating me.”

Fans came out in support of Widow and collected evidence for her defense. For example, a Twitter user brought up how in Missouri, residents are allowed to defend themselves against “intruders” in any way they see fit:
Missouri is a castle law state. She has the legal right to do whatever she deems fit to remove anyone disrupting the sanctity of her home. She was arrested for following the law. I feel like that needs to be the most important thing highlighted here. pic.twitter.com/gESIFwogvo

And other Twitter users shared screenshots of Instagram comments from people who claimed they’ve had their own experiences with Widow’s ex and that he is manipulative and toxic. Again, this is an all-caps MESS.

Regardless of what really went down, I’m not really sure that Widow should be loudly saying that she issued a beatdown on her ex. I’m no lawyer, but if you ever find yourself accused of beating someone up and you get the urge to loudly shout about how you did beat someone up, don’t think to yourself, “Widow Von’Du.” Think to yourself, “Widow Von’Don’tSayIt.”
