Jennifer Lopez And Ben Affleck Were Planning To Debut As A Couple On Instagram
Regardless how you feel about the recent rebooting of the early 2000s it couple, Bennifer, you have to get up out of your seat, throw your hands together, and applaud Jennifer Lopez and Ben Affleck for the tireless work they’ve put into making us care that they’re back together. But apparently, their big couple reveal was supposed to go differently. JLo and Ben were allegedly planning a huge surprise social media reveal to announce that Bennifer was back on again. But those pesky paparazzi shots of Ben at JLo’s house ruined the surprise.
About a month after JLo called it quits with Alex Rodriguez, Ben Affleck was seen arriving at her home in Los Angeles in her white Escalade. The deep skeptic in me thought the only way that could have been more obviously staged was if Ben’s right hand was holing a bottle of suntan oil, and he was heard shouting, “Wow, I can’t wait to rub this all over JLo’s butt, just like I did in that music video!“. As it turns out, my instincts might have been way wrong, and that Escalade exit might not have been caught on purpose. Several sources tell Page Six that JLo is all about perfect timing and maximum exposure, and she was hoping to harness both by going Instagram official:
Sources told Page Six that the stars planned to announce their reunion in a more tightly controlled way before pics emerged of Affleck riding solo in Lopez’s car to allegedly visit her home. But the paparazzi shots of Affleck stealthily dropping off his car at the Hotel Bel-Air and then traveling to JLo’s nearby home beat them to the punch.
“He stayed at her house [in April], and she was planning to make an announcement that they are back together on Instagram. It’s all about timing with her,” a source told Page Six.
It’s unknown how serious JLo and Ben are about each other, due to the fact that, as one source puts it, they’re two people who can’t ever be alone. But, that same source says JLo “really likes” Ben, and that they have a “long history” which further adds to things.
Even though JLo and Ben were denied an Instagram reveal, it doesn’t mean they’re not doing a lot to ensure people keep guessing about the status of their relationship. They were both seen attending the Vax Live concert, with JLo performing the unofficial song of the Boston Red Sox, “Sweet Caroline.” They reportedly took a trip to Montana together. They were both recently seen on the same balcony in Miami, and Ben was wearing a watch JLo gave him back in the Bennifer days. They were seen going to a gym together in Miami. And Page Six says JLo was recently caught on Instagram liking a post from a life coach about “finally being loved effortlessly” (which she reportedly un-liked quickly).
However, they have yet to go red carpet official, Instagram official, or even photographed holding hands and kissing in front of a sunset (I’m sure we’re just days away from that). I can’t figure out why JLo wasn’t able to execute her special Instagram stunt in time before the paps blew her cover? If I had to guess, I’d say it was because she was trying to plan it on her own, and there are only so many hours in a day. And I know Page Six’s sources say that both JLo and Ben were planning this Instagram announcement together, but there’s no way. She probably saw that Raya video and realized there was no way she was collaborating on such an important project with someone who doesn’t even know you never use the front-facing camera.
Meanwhile, JLo’s other former boyfriend, Diddy Love Combs, showed JLo that you don’t have to overthink it. You can just grab a picture from the internet, post it to Instagram, and watch all the attention roll in. This is exactly what Diddy did today, when he trolled Ben and Jennifer with the following throwback:
As you may recall, JLo dated Diddy from 1999 to 2001, then she married backup dancer Cris Judd in 2001 and divorced him in 2002, then got with Ben Affleck right after. It’s cute of Diddy to think he could make a joke about this situation, but the joke is on him. Next thing he knows, he’s going to get a call from Jennifer Lopez asking if how interested he’d be in getting “caught” leaving a restaurant with her, in the event Ben starts to get bored and this Bennifer thing blows over. She can even show up in her iconic green Versace dress! If you’re going to rehash the past for attention, you might as well go all the way.
