Don’t Call Glenn Close A “Loser” For Not Winning An Oscar
The Oscars were weeks ago and the three people who watched have already moved on, but the media is still talking about how Twerk Team Champion Glenn Close lost her eighth shot at an Oscar. And in a recent interview with the Associated Press (via The Huffington Post), Glenn is letting everyone know they shouldn’t feel bad for her because she’s fine with it.
Glenn Close has been nominated for an Oscar 8 times for her performances in The World According to Garp, The Big Chill, The Natural, Fatal Attraction, Dangerous Liaisons, Albert Nobbs, The Wife, and Hillbilly Elegy. She’s never won. Clearly, the Academy must have porridge for brains because Glenn Close is a beast! And the fact that she has never taken home a trophy proves to me that just because you don’t get a stupid award it doesn’t take away from your greatness. But still, some bitches like to be messy and that’s exactly what happened when the LA Times wrote an article calling Glenn the eternal Bridesmaid of the Oscars. That’s when Glenn’s friend Sarah Paulson tagged in to throw windmills and haymakers on Twitter in Glenn’s defense:
I wish this conversation would cease. She’s brilliant and continues to have an extraordinary and enviable career. Nighty night to this click bait convo to nowheresville.

And of course, because Glenn has no time for tweets and articles about silly shit, she had no idea that this conversation was even taking place. Glenn decided to speak on it in only the way she could by letting everyone know she may not have an Oscar, but she is far from a loser.
“Who in that category is a loser? You’re there, you’re five people honored for the work that you’ve done by your peers. What’s better than that?,” she said. “And I honestly feel that the press likes to have winners and losers. And then they say, ‘Who is the worst dressed?’ And, you know, ‘Who made the worst speech?’ Forget it. It’s not what it’s about.”
Looking directly in the camera, she passionately ended with: “I say, fuck them!”
And that’s the way you do it. In the words of the late Phife Dawg, “I never let a statue tell me how nice I am!“. Glenn knows she’s great, and she is also appreciative of being able to be in the same room with her peers after the pandemic turned us all into the Jetsons with constant communication over Zoom.
“I’ll tell you what I loved about the Oscars … you got to talk to people whose work you had seen and loved. I got to talk to the wonderful Korean woman who won in my category; got to meet Maria (Bakalova), who was also in my category, the wonderful young actress from Bulgaria.
“And that’s what we need to do. You need to be able to mix with your own kind and … be able to express your appreciation and how much you’ve been inspired by them. And that meant a lot, I think, to everybody,” she said.
Y’all better stop playing with Glenn. Remember, she’s the actress who scared a nation of cheaters to think twice about having mistresses and rabbits. You don’t convey that kind of messiness unless it’s in there deep down inside. You’ve all been warned. Here’s a snippet of Glenn’s interview:
