Glenn Close May Have Lost The Best Supporting Actress Oscar, But She Really Won The Night By Doing “Da Butt”
There was not much real entertainment (unless you count 80-hour long speeches and constant ass-kissing as “entertainment“) during last night’s Oscars. The nominees for Best Song were performed during the pre-show. But we did get a little jolt of actual fun during a segment that should have been called “What Fuckin’ Show Is This??” The segment featured a few of the nominees including the Susan Lucci of the Oscars Glenn Close (she’s been nominated 8 times and has never won) who let the Oscars voters know they can kiss her ass by doing Da Butt.
During last night’s Oscars, DJ QuestLove, who served as the music man for the ceremony, introduced Get Out star Lil Rel Howery so they could play a music trivia game where they asked if a specific song was an Oscar nominee or not. First, they approached The United States vs. Billie Holiday nominee Andra Day, who looked like she was either bored to death or thoroughly enjoying the top shelf open bar. In any case, they played Prince’s classic “Purple Rain” and after she gave her curse-filled answer, we all found out that the song was not nominated for Best Song. Next, they moved onto brand new Oscar winner (and Lil Rel’s Get Out co-star) Daniel Kaluuya by playing Donna Summer’s Oscar-winning iconic song “Last Dance”. Of course, since Daniel’s twelve, he didn’t know what the hell was going on. But sitting a few feet away was Glenn Close who tried to save him by reminding Lil Rel that Daniel still had traces of Similac on his chin. That’s when, according to Mediaite, Lil Rel turned his sights onto Glenn, and as we all know, she will NOT be ignored.
Quest spun a classic song from Spike Lee’s iconic homage to HBCU’s School Daze and Glenn immediately opened up her swag bag and revealed multiple bottles of hot sauce to let those who doubted her know how down she is. Not only did she correctly identify the tune, “Da Butt“, she also gave a shout out to the band who created it (E.U.), named a key member of the band, and shouted out the Go-Go music capital of the world The DMV (DC/Maryland/Virginia area for you bitches not in the know). THEN, as if she hadn’t already solidified her invitation to the cookout, Lil Rel tested her knowledge one more time. And that, just so you and your children will know, is the night the lights went out in Union Station.
“I wasn’t expecting that at all, that you knew Da Butt. It’s dope and uncomfortable at the same time,” Lil Rel Howery joked. “But do you know the dance, though? Do you know how to do Da Butt?”
She did.
Close proceeded to bust out her best Da Butt — leading to claps and cheers from the impressed stars in the room.
Yes, the whole thing was scripted, but Glenn’s dancing was not. So she still won the game of how to show young people you still know how to buss it wide every now and again. Because before everyone was twerking all over grandma’s furniture for likes on TikTok, Da Butt was one of those dances you’d get your ass kicked for doing if you were too young. And Glenn showed all you young hoes how it’s supposed to be done!
Check out the entire segment below, but definitely check Glenn Thee Stallion’s performance at the 5:22 mark.
