Yasuko Tamaki, the world’s oldest office manager!
If I ever make it to the age of 90 (“HA! Good luck with that, bitch.” – my liver), the only work I plan on doing is working my ass while dropping it low in the party room of Shady Pines Queens nursing home. But not Yasuko Tamaki. Yasuko is 90 years old and is still working, and not for a sad reason like she can’t afford to pay her bills, but because she’s the rare breed who actually likes working. And doing so got her a Guinness World Record!
Yasuko Tamaki started working at trading company Sunco Industries in 1956 when she was 26 years old. Yes, in 1956, so honestly, that company’s name should be called Tamaki Industries because Yasuko should own that bitch by now! But she works as the office manager, and unlike some super-oldies, you won’t catch Yasuko calling her grandson on the landline to ask him how to post one of those moving pictures on the FaceSpace site, because Yasuko’s got this! via GWR:
Upon receiving the Guinness World Records official certificate, she expressed gratitude to her workplace. “All I did was doing what I’m expected to do for 90 years, so I don’t know what to say! I am truly touched.”
Yasuko works on office accounts, calculating staff’s salaries and bonuses, as well as tax deduction calculations; that means she’s at home with PC applications such as Microsoft Excel.
She’s also comfortable with using the Facebook app on her smartphone!
And no, Yasuko has no plans to retire:
When asked how she was able to achieve such a feat, Yasuko answered “I think it’s just an accumulation. I always thought that I was born to be of help to someone. So I want to do things that make chairman, managers and other staff happy. That remains my lifelong goal.”
According to Yasuko, there is no such thing as retirement for her. “Once a year ends, then there is another. So I hope to keep on going like that.”
At the certificate presentation, Yasuko told her colleagues to live strong with a mindset “if you waste today, then there is no tomorrow.”
I’m pretty sure that Yasuko Tamaki has also won another Guinness World Record. Since she’s an office manager and has been working in an office for almost 65 years, I’m sure she unofficially holds the Guinness World Record for the most time a person has written the note “I am not your mother! Clean your shit up yourself!” and taped it over the sink in the break room.
