DMX Is Reportedly In Critical Condition After Suffering An Overdose (UPDATE)

TMZ delivered some awful-wrapped horrible news today, which has made the internet and beyond light up their prayer candles. 50-year-old DMX is reportedly in a bad, bad, bad way after he had a heart attack that was triggered by an overdose. DMX is in the hospital in “grave condition” and doctors are not sure if he’s going to make it.
Sources tell TMZ that DMX (born name: Earl Simmons) overdosed at around 11:00 last night at his home. He was taken to the hospital in White Plains, NY, and is currently being treated in the ICU. The source adds that he’s in a “vegetative state.”
DMX was rushed to a hospital in White Plains, New York and is in the critical care unit. We’re told he has “some brain activity.” Another source says he’s in a “vegetative state” and doctors have cautioned he may not make it.
UPDATE –Β DMX’s attorney Murray Richman gave people some home last night when he claimed that DMX was off life support and breathing on his own. But Murray later said that he misspoke and was given wrong information. DMX is still on life support and TMZ says that his children are flying in to see him. His rep gave this statement:
“Last night Earl ‘DMX’ Simmons was rushed to the hospital after collapsing at home. At this time he remains in ICU in critical condition. Earl has been a warrior his entire life. This situation represents yet another road he must conquer. The Simmons Family appreciates the overwhelming outpouring of heartfelt love, encouragement, support and prayers for Earl. Earl is someone whose life and music have been a source of inspiration and strength to so many people around the world. It is reassuring to see his fans return that same passion and energy to him during his time of need.”
DMX has struggled with drug addiction for most of his life and has gone through it. He’s received treatment in rehab several times, including in 2019 when he canceled a bunch of showsΒ because he was afraid of relapsing and needed help to stay sober. That was just a few months after he got out of prison where he served a one-year sentence for tax evasion.
Uproxx says that DMX was currently working on his first album in six years. And after the news broke that DMX is not doing well, rappers like Missy Elliott, Rick Ross, and Ja Rule sent love his way:
