Taylor Swift Won Album Of The Year For “folklore” At The Grammys

While wearing the shower curtain of somebody’s grandma circa the 1960s (it was Oscar de la Renta), Taylor Swift took home the Album Of The Year award at the 2021 Grammys for her surprise pop-folksy release, folklore. It was the third time she won the Grammy for Album of the Year, and thankfully, Kanye West was nowhere near the Grammys last night, or he may have pulled a repeat of the 2009 MTV VMAS and crashed the stage to let Taylor know that he’s gonna let her finish but his Christian album was the best album of the year (and yeah, it did win Kanye another Grammy that he’ll piss on).

Before winning AOTY, Taylor got gussied up in her best Game Of Thrones party-drag and laid back to start her medley performance with cardigan. She sang alone on the mossy roof of a repurposed high-school production of Into The Woods-set and then was joined by Jack Antonoff and The National’s Aaron Dessner, who both helped Taylor write and produce her two albums. Together in a miniature house that only Polly Pocket would call spacious, they performed august and then stepped out to stretch their backs perform willow.

Taylor was nominated for a whole bunch of 2021 Grammys, like Best Pop Vocal Album (Aretha “Beautiful Gowns” Franklin‘s spirit is confused), Best Pop Solo Performance and Song Of The Year for cardigan, and Best Pop Duo/Group Performance for her song exile with White Man Bon Iver, and also Best Song Written for Visual Media for her Beautiful Ghosts song from Cats. Yes, Cats got a nomination. Now I understand The Weeknd‘s frustration. Imagine getting snubbed the year Cats was nominated?

Somehow Taylor lost all of those awards but won for Album Of The Year, beating Black Pumas, Jhene Aiko, Jacob Collier, Coldplay, Dua Lipa, Post Malone, and Haim. Taylor made sure to thank all the important people in her life, like her boyfriend of almost four years, Joe Alwyn, who co-wrote some songs with her. She also mentioned celebrity besties, Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds and their kids, James, Inez, and Betty: (via People)

“Joe is the first person that I play every single song that I write, and I had the best time writing songs with you in quarantine,” she said.

Swift went on to thank all of her “collaborators,” as well as “James, Inez and Betty and their parents,” referencing close pals Blake Lively and Ryan Reynolds and their three daughters. “[They] are the second and third people that I play every new song that I write,” she said

Here’s Taylor’s speech:

While at the show, Taylor also managed to chat it up with her ex, Harry Styles, with the both of them pretending to partake in whatever mask/distance regulations The Grammys had in place:

And she also kiki’d with Haim backstage and didn’t even bother with social distancing:

Glad to see life is fully back to normal for rich people and they can celebrate huge music awards while pretending to be cautious. But I am still surprised that Taylor won AOTY. I’m sure that the Grammy people just didn’t want to get doxxed by Taylor’s fans like the writer from Ginny & Georgia. Or worse, get yelled at online by Todrick Hall.
