Soleil Moon Frye Says Her First Consensual Sexual Encounter Was With Charlie Sheen

Well, whaddaya know? We’re living in a Soleil Moon Frye renaissance (and I guess a pandemic too?). It’s not just the Punky Brewster reboot on Peacock; Soleil’s got a new Hulu documentary called Kid 90. It uses her own home videos (Soleil carried a camera wherever she went) to tell the story of being a child star in the early 90s. The doc features current interviews with Brian Austin Green, Mark-Paul Gosselaar, David Arquette and Stephen Dorff, and has old footage of Leonardo DiCaprio, Corey Feldman, Sara Gilbert, Freddie Prinze Jr., and more.

Kid 90 also makes use of Soleil’s teenage journal entries. According to one from December 18, 1994, Soleil’s first consensual sexual experience was with Charlie Sheen. She was 18. He was 29. And maybe that screams “ick” to you, but Soleil told USA Today that he was very nice to her and they’re still friends.

via US Weekly:

The Punky Brewster star read a journal entry dated December 18, 1994, in the doc. “It’s been the most strange and incredible day ever,” she recalled, noting that Sheen is her “Mr. Big,” referring to Carrie Bradshaw’s love interest in Sex and the City. “He’s somebody I’ve had a crush on for years. He’s a person that intrigues me and excites me.”

A reminder that Mr. Big was also a fucking prick. And he also might be dead? But Soleil described Charlie as “so kind and loving”:

“He was really kind to me, and I can only speak to my experience and my story with him,” she told USA Today about Sheen. “In opening the diaries and reading back the diary entries, it was very sweet and he had been really kind to me and treated me really beautifully. And for all these years afterward, in some of the most pivotal moments in my life, has checked in and (lent) his support.”

Soleil is aware of Corey Feldman’s sexual assault allegations against Charlie, but she says she doesn’t know anything about that, and can only speak to her own experience. She added, “I don’t think people are devils or angels.”

She also talks about experiencing her own sexual assault by an unnamed man when she was 17 (hence the clarification that Charlie was her first *consensual* sexual encounter). At the time Soleil wrote in her diary:

“He asked if I’d say that he had raped me, but I wouldn’t. I was also to blame for my forwardness.”

There’s also an audio recording of Soleil asking her friend what happened that night, cuz all she remembers was drinking ginger ale and passing out. Present-day Soleil finally realizes that she was probably roofied that night:

“Even now, I’m still trying to put the pieces together of experiences that I didn’t really completely understand,” she told the Los Angeles Times earlier this month. “Only now do I know what [date rape drug] GHB is. I’d just pushed that all down, and I don’t think I ever thought I would really share or confront it. But I wanted to find forgiveness — both for the people involved and for the little girl who felt in some way responsible for any shame or pain.”

Damn. Here’s the trailer for Kid 90, which I’ll probably eventually watch cuz I love old celebrity gossip and the 90s ~aesthetic~:
