Billie Eilish Thinks Her Record Of The Year Win Belongs To Megan Thee Stallion

Billie Eilish isn’t just Gen Z’s favorite moody musician to blast in their room while they consider bullying their stepmom about her side part and skinny jeans. She’s also the newest member of the I Don’t Deserve This Grammy, YOU Do club. Like when Adele told everyone that Beyoncé should have her Album of the Year award. Well, this year’s Beyoncé to Billie’s Adele is Megan Thee Stallion. Actually, Beyoncé also makes a little appearance here too.

Megan and her undeniable WAP were up for four awards at last night’s Grammys: Record of the Year, Best New Artist, Best Rap Song, and Best Rap Performance. She won three of the four. But if it were up to Billie Eilish, Megan’s arms would be full of thee cramps, because she’d be carrying home all four awards. Megan was nominated for Record of the Year for “Savage” ft. Beyoncé, while Billie was nominated for “everything i wanted.” Billie won, and when she won, both she and her brother Finneas O’Connell were blown back in surprise, because they both thought Megan was walking away with the final award of the evening.

She then claimed in her acceptance speech that she really didn’t write one, because she thought there was no way she was winning. via Pitchfork:

“This is really embarrassing for me,” she said. “Megan, girl, I was gonna write a speech about how you deserve this but then I was like, ‘There’s no way they’re going to choose me.’ I was like, ‘It’s hers.’ You deserve this. You had a year that I think is unstoppable. You are a queen; I want to cry thinking about how much I love you. You deserve everything in the world, I think about you constantly. You deserve it.”

After encouraging everyone to cheer and clap for the real winner of Record of the Year, I’m sure everyone was expecting Billie to leave the stage empty-handed. Or maybe even to pull a Mean Girls and break the award up so she and Megan could split it. But she didn’t do that. She just kept thanking people, as if she was accepting an award. Almost as though her words about Megan Thee Stallion deserving the award was a meaningless, empty gesture! I can’t believe it. Over-the-top hyperbole and overkill at an awards show?

I’m really not too surprised that Billie didn’t give Megan her award. After all, Megan took home three awards. Secondly, it’s not like she’s going to leave it on the stage out of protest, because someone else would have swiped it. Taylor Swift, I’m guessing. Taylor only took home one award last night. And she didn’t get dressed up in half a dollar store’s fake flower wall for just one trophy!
