Open Post: Hosted By The Cat Who Was Given Spaghetti After Being Stuck In A Tree For A Week

Those of us who have been reading this site since at least 2008 are all struggling to rise from our rocking chairs and put down our Werther’s Originals right now, at the sight of “Spaghetti” and “Cat” in the same sentence. Spaghetti Cat is a beloved Dlisted legend, having launched his long and storied television career first on Animal Planet and then a talk show where the photo of him about to dig into a plate of spaghetti while seated at a human’s table is permanently etched in all of our brainpans.

Today we meet the next generation’s star-powered feline faced with a dish of spaghetti, and to everyone’s surprise, it’s a Florida animal story that doesn’t involve alligators, death, or heavily tainted street drugs.

According to People:

A Florida cat is safe and sound after spending a week in a tree in Pensacola, thanks to the firefighters who rescued it on Thursday night!

Authorities told WKRG that the rescue took over an hour, as the orange tabby cat kept moving out of the firefighters’ reach.

After three attempts, firefighters were able to use a ladder to get high enough to save the feline, WKRG reports.

Nearby business owners told the firefighters the cat had been in the tree for over a week, and why no one sought help earlier is anyone’s guess. (You:  “This is where the Florida part comes in.“)

After the cat was safely on the ground, it enjoyed some much needed water and a little snack — spaghetti!

The firefighter who rescued the cat couldn’t keep it, so the department released it to animal control, authorities told WKRG. However, animal control paid homage to the firefighter by giving the cat his name, Paul, WKRG reports.

It’s not clear yet whether Paul will be put up for adoption and, if so, when.

If any of you are in or near Pensacola and need Spaghetti Cat 2.0 in your life, give them a call.

And here’s Paul getting a bunch of helping hands to end his harrowing week in a Florida tree:

My thoughts and prayers are with whoever answers the phone at the fire department because they’re definitely getting several earfuls of people screaming at them over firefighters feeding a cat tomato sauce!
