Oh, It’s Just French Actress Corinne Masiero Stripping Out Of A Donkey Costume In Protest At The César Awards

Leave it to the French to douse a COVID-19-related protest with massive amounts of dramatique glamour!

Many headlines about this story say that 57-year-old French actress Corinne Masiero did herself up like Eeyore eating Carrie (no, not in a bestiality kind of way) and got naked at the César Awards to protest the continued closure of movie theaters due to le coronavirus. So when I read that, I nearly slid into an anti-mask Facebook group to let the “Karens” there know that this French Karené is showing them how a tone-deaf protest is really done. But those headlines apparently got it wrong.  Corrine’s bloody ass stunt was to call out the French government’s response to helping artists who are out of work because of the pandemic. And she did it while wearing a pair of stunning tampon earrings that’ll make you say, “Who knew that Prince Charles sold jewelry on Etsy!” NSFW WARNING: There are protestin’ nipples and cooch after the cut.

The César Awards, which are the French equivalent of the Oscars, happened on Friday night at the Olympia concert hall in Paris. During the socially-distanced ceremony, Corrine Masiero sashayed onto the stage to present the award for Best Costume, and she really should’ve presented it to herself, because she looked like she was starring as Donkey in Shrek: The Musical at 7 pm but had to play the title role in Carrie: The Musical at 8 pm. Corrine then stripped out of her Peta protester drag and got pubes-out naked. The words “No culture, no future” were scribbled on her titties and torso. Corrine made an ass out of herself in the name of supporting artistes who have been having a hard time during the pandemic. via Deadline:

French actress Corinne Masiero sent shockwaves through Paris’ Olympia concert hall during France’s César Awards ceremony this evening when she stripped off her clothes to appear entirely naked on stage. Across her breasts and torso was written, “No culture, no future.” The move was in support of artists and technicians across the country who have been impacted by work stoppages caused by the Covid crisis and the government’s response. Scrawled across her back was a message evidently destined for Prime Minister Jean Castex: “Give us back art, Jean.”

Finally, before fully removing her dress and revealing she was entirely naked underneath, she said, “I have a last costume and after that’s there’s nothing more. This one is ‘Who Wants The Skin Of Roger L’Intermittant,’” a reference to the French title of Who Framed Roger Rabbit and using the local term for France’s recurring workers in the arts. She added the statement she was making was, “Because now we are like this, completely naked.”

As ceremony host Marina Fois scrambled to gather Masiero’s clothes off the stage floor, Masiero said, “I don’t think I’ll be invited next year, we’ll see.” Broadcaster Canal Plus then cut to a montage of the Costume nominees and when Masiero reappeared, she was back in the red dress.

Here’s the video of Uma Thurman’s French look-alike getting naked as the ceremony’s host Marina Fois looks at her like, “Thank the fuck I didn’t wear my first choice outfit of a donkey throwing up a glamorous used tampon. That would’ve been trés embarrassing!

While Corrine didn’t specifically protest against the closing of movie theaters, others did including writer/director Stéphane Demoustier, via The Global Times:

Others used the stage to confront the government over its decision to keep cinemas shut since October 2020, even as most other businesses have reopened.

“My children can go to Zara but not the cinema… it’s incomprehensible,” said Stephane Demoustier as he picked up the Cesar for best screenplay for The Girl With a Bracelet.

Never mind that you don’t sit all close to each other and fill your mouth hole with snacks at a Zara, Stéphane obviously didn’t get the memo that a César Awards protest speech doesn’t count unless you’re dressed like a mash-up of a Winnie the Pooh character and a Stephen King character. Were Piglet and Pennywise costumes not available?!

The 2021 Oscars are exactly six weeks away and that gives potential nominees plenty of time to put together their own naked protest. And by “potential nominees,” I’m specifically talking about Riz Ahmed, Steven Yeun, and Leslie Odom Jr. And okay, okay, Anthony Hopkins too!
