Taylor Swift’s Feud With “Ginny & Georgia” Has Caused Her Fans To Start Doxxing A Writer
Earlier this week, Taylor Swift dragged Netflix’s teen series Ginny & Georgia for beating the most-dead horse in Taylor’s reputation stable by making a joke about her dating history. And I don’t know what Taylor was hoping to achieve by publicly calling them out. If it was attention, well then – mission accomplished. If it was the potential for some satisfying revenge, Taylor is going to have to keep waiting on that, because Netflix hasn’t cancelled Ginny & Georgia (and they probably won’t, because it’s popular). I don’t think Taylor was hoping that her public shaming of Ginny & Georgia would result in a random female writer going into hiding to protect herself against death threats and doxxing, but that’s where we’re currently at.
When Taylor called out the writers of Ginny & Georgia for their “lazy, deeply sexist joke” about the men she’s dated, she specifically noted that she was doing so on the first day of Women’s History Month. And Happy Women’s History Month, indeed! A woman is now terrified to show her face on the internet, because Taylor’s obsessive fans have called her and her sisters “sluts.” Just as Susan B. Anthony and RBG would have wanted! This all started when author and Conde Nast video producer/writer Carrie Courogen decided to comment on Taylor’s comments about the G&G joke. According to screengrabs saved by ONTD, Carrie tweeted: “Cancel cancel culture lmao I hate it here.”
Pretty inoffensive in the grand scheme of things, considering this is taking place on the internet. Still, even the smallest shred of possibly implied hate against Taylor will send her fans into a frenzy, and they mounted an attack against Carrie, complete with the same slut-shaming Taylor herself was originally complaining about. To be fair, tone-deafness appears to be the main attack strategy of her minions. Carrie says that the Swifties found her personal email address and personal phone number, and have left her five days worth of hate and harassment. It apparently got worse when Carrie called out Taylor for suddenly being social media shy when her fans begin to get abusive. Carrie was eventually forced to go private for her own safety, but she’s back to being public again, so we can all see what kind of love Taylor’s fans have been showering upon her:
For the past 24+ hours, I have been doxxed & endlessly harassed on every social platform by Sw*ft stans. They found & contacted my personal phone and personal email & phone. Some left voicemails.
The allegation that *I* am the one harassing is disgusting and dangerous. pic.twitter.com/HKKVN8QtGD

The poetic irony of a 13 year old whose bio is a number for a suicide prevention hotline telling me to go kill myself 🙂

I won't be bullied into silence by 13 year olds, and I shouldn't have to—and I won't—apologize to a billionaire or her fans for the tweet or past articles below that have earned me endless vitriol on here. Sorry I'm obnoxious about this, but fuck 'em. pic.twitter.com/VTNsHBY9vK

Carrie suspects the Swifties targeted her because they believed she was a writer for G&G, a fact she has since cleared up in her Twitter bio. I’m sure you’ll be shocked to learn that hasn’t stopped the barrage of hate. Taylor hasn’t said anything about her fans doxxing and threatening Carrie, and that could be because she doesn’t give a shit, or maybe it’s because she doesn’t spend every spare moment supervising her fans on Twitter. But if Carrie wants Taylor to get involved, she just needs to get creative and think of a way to get Taylor’s immediate attention. I know! Just tweet that you are thinking of trademarking your new book store, Red’s Fearless Lover & Reputation Folklore Emporium (est. 1989). That should do it.
