Open Post: Hosted By David Schwimmer Confirming That The “Friends” Reunion Is Going To Start Filming

NBC’s Friends ended in 2004, and it feels like we’ve been talking about a Friends reunion every day since. Well, David Schwimmer recently gave an update on HBO Max’s Friends reunion special, and it’s definitely a thing that is happening.

Production on the HBO Max-exclusive reunion special was going full steam ahead last year and was scheduled to begin shooting mid-March, but as we all know, that’s when North America went into COVID-19 lockdown mode, and took all future TV show and movie production into lockdown with it. So Jennifer Aniston, Courteney Cox, Matt LeBlanc, Lisa Kudrow, David Schwimmer, and Matthew Perry would have to wait just a little longer before they got to cash their rumored $3 to $4 million pay checks. The last time we heard anything about it was back in August, when Jennifer Aniston confirmed they were still on board, but that no one had figured out a safe way to put on the show. David Schwimmer recently appeared on SiriusXM’s Radio Andy show and revealed to Andy Cohen that they finally worked out how to film the reunion in a pandemic-safe way. No, Chandler isn’t getting replaced with a sex doll retrofitted with a speaker box that says, “Could this BE any more creepy?” when you pull a string. via People:

“It’s happening. Actually, in a little over a month I’m heading out to L.A. So, finally, I mean, we figured out a way to film it safely and there’s going to be a portion of it that we filmed outside because of, you know, for safety protocols.”

Let me guess, the outside portion takes place at the fountain form the opening credits, except this time, no one splashes in the water, because no one could get a definitive answer on whether the COVID-19 virus could travel though dirty fountain piping?

Lisa Kudrow also confirmed back in January that they already started shooting solo material to be used for the special. And David Schwimmer wouldn’t say who is hosting the special, but did confirm that it’s not Ellen DeGeneres or Billy Crystal.

I hope that with all that extra time to prepare, everyone involved in this reunion special, from the host to the cast, had enough time to brush up on their Friends trivia. Because many Friends fans have been locked inside for the past year, with nothing to do but binge-watch the entire Friends series from start to finish over and over and over again. Nobody wants to feel the wrath of Friends Twitter when someone incorrectly answers how many times Ross shouted “PIVOT” while moving that couch.
