The Joker’s “We Live In A Society” Line Stole The Spotlight In The Trailer For Zack Snyder’s “Justice League”

Zack Snyder‘s R-rated cut of Justice League has been hyped up for quite some time now. We’ve been teased with Henry Cavill‘s dark and broody suit and Jared Leto’s Marilyn Manson-looking Joker. The official trailer is now out for the SnyderCut Justice League, which comes out on HBO Max on March 18. Jared has been getting attention from the trailer and not just because everyone’s screaming, HIM AGAIN?!” But because people are obsessed with meme-culture.

Zack Snyder’s Justice League stars Ben Affleck, Ray Fisher, Gal Gadot, Jason Momoa, Ezra Miller as well as Henry Cavill. Ray made headlines after calling out Joss Whedon, who took over for Zack after the tragic loss of his daughter took him away from the movie the first time around. But Ray and Zack are good and did reshoots for the re-release. The trailer was released yesterday:

The trailer trended on Twitter over the Joker saying the line, “We live in a society… where honor is a distant memory…

People were obsessed with this. Why? Good question. Mashable explains that “We live in a society,” became attributed to the Joker through meme-culture and was never actually uttered by the villain in the DC canon. It became associated with being “edgy” and different from everyone else. Very Kanye West.

Jared let us all know that he too is in on the joke:

The meme has become lore! Meme culture makes a full-circle moment. Enjoy that moment when Zack Snyder’s Justice League comes out on March 18th, but buckle the fuck in because that shit is supposed to be four hours long. Four. Hours. 240 minutes. Sigh… We live in a society… where movies need to be shorter.
