More Details About Bruce Springsteen’s DWI Arrest Have Been Revealed

Newly released details of Bruce Springsteen‘s DWI arrest last November have many of his fans giving the New Jersey police the old hairy eyeball. TMZ reports that sources say that at the time of his arrest, Bruce’s blood alcohol level “was only .02, well below the legal limit.” However, the recipient of said hairy eyeballs, the cop who arrested him, says that Bruce’s glassy eyeballs were to blame for his arrest.

According to CNN, on November 14th of last year, Bruce was arrested at Gateway National Recreation Area in Sandy Hook, New Jersey, and charged with “DWI, reckless driving and consuming alcohol in a closed area.” The Boss was apparently tootin’ around the park on his motorcycle and stopped to take photos with some fans, as is his wont. And at some point, Bruce took two shots of tequila with the group.

That night, the source close to the singer said, Springsteen took a shot of alcohol with fans in the park after taking a photo with them. The source added that Springsteen is known to take photographs with fans. “That’s typical Bruce,” the source said.

One officer said they observed Springsteen “consume a shot of Patron tequila and then get on his motorcycle and start the engine,” according to a probable cause statement obtained by CNN.

Springsteen told the officer he had consumed two shots of tequila in the previous 20 minutes, according to the probable cause statement.

“SPRINGSTEEN smelt strongly of alcohol coming off his person and had glassy eyes,” the officer said in the statement, adding he “was visibly swaying back and forth while I observed his eyes.”

Prior to the screening the officer said he approached Springsteen and informed him alcohol was prohibited in the park, and asked whether Springsteen was leaving, to which “he confirmed he was going to drive out of the park,” the statement said.

Springsteen, according to the officer, took 45 steps during the “walk and turn” test “instead of the instructed 18.”

Well, what did they expect? Everybody knows that Bruce can’t take 18 measly steps. Baby, he was born to run! TMZ adds “he allegedly refused to submit to a breath test,” however, “there have been reports claiming Springsteen’s BAC was only .02, well below the legal limit. The New York Post adds:

The “Born to Run” crooner was apparently hauled in for bloodwork instead, with his blood-alcohol content clocking in at 0.02 — below New Jersey’s legal limit while driving of .08, the Asbury Park Press reported.

A source told Page Six late Wednesday that the musician was out riding his motorcycle when he was spotted by adoring fans “who asked him to pull over and take some pictures.”

In either case, shame on Bruce for making it through the rowdiest decades for rock stars with a clean record (per Asbury Park Press) only to blow it in his golden years by drinking tequila in a park with fans in the middle of a fucking pandemic. He’s got nobody to blame but himself. Thirst kills, he should have kept it moving. You can’t take a shot of tequila and get a DWI if you’re wearing your mask, Bruce! Not without a straw, you can’t.
