Halle Berry Is Not Happy That She’s Still Paying Gabriel Aubry $16,000 A Month In Child Support

There was a time when the name Gabriel Aubry would either make you think of Calvin Klein undies or that violent Thanksgiving Day fight with Olivier Martinez. Generally, his name doesn’t come up that much. Well, not if you’re Halle Berry, that is. If you are Halle Berry, then you know that you think of Gabriel Aubry every time you have to pay him $16,000 in child support, which is something that happens every month. And Halle is tired of it.

Halle and Gabriel were together from 2005 to 2010, and they share custody of a daughter Nahla, who is almost 13 years old. Their custody fight over Nahla was long and messy, and involved allegations of child endangerment, restraining orders, threats to relocate to France, visits from child protective services, and the driveway fight with Halle’s then-husband Olivier Martinez (who is technically still her husband). It got very messy when it came to money as well, with Gabriel first getting his hands on $20,000 a month in child support, and later, $16,000 a month. That was nearly seven years ago, and Halle is clearly not very happy that the amount hasn’t been adjusted in her favor.

Hot New Hip Hop reports that Halle aired out her child support frustrations in an Instagram comment made yesterday, after one of her followers brought up a rumor from the past about Gabriel allegedly calling Halle a racial slur, then adding how she has to cut him a check every month. To which Halle responded with:

“And it takes great strength to pay it. And BTW it’s wrong and it’s extortion!”

Halle then clarified that she doesn’t pay him any alimony, since they were never married, and that the money isn’t technically his, but their child’s. Still, she doesn’t want to pay him that much.

“I’ve been paying it for over a decade now. I feel if a woman or man is having to pay support that is way more than the reasonable needs to help SUPPORT the child, I think that is wrong!”

She especially doesn’t want to be paying him that much, because she believes Gabriel should put his pretty face to work and make money for his child, instead of relying on her:

“The way many laws are set up people are allowed to USE children in order to be awarded money to live a lifestyle that not only they did not earn, but that is way above and beyond the child’s reasonable needs, and that is ‘THE WRONG’ and where I see the abuse. The laws are outdated and no longer reflect the modern world. I’m living it everyday and I can tell you it’s hard.”

Halle added that she can relate to dads who have felt “taken advantage of” by the system. Here’s her comment in full:

Gabriel gets $192,000 a year from Halle. That seems like a lot to me, a person who has successfully kept a child both alive and happy on grocery store-brand apple sauce and second-hand Duplos. But it could be worse. Halle Berry could be Jesse Williams, who at one point in time was forking over $100,000 a month in support. That’s not to say there isn’t a judge out there who isn’t willing to hear Halle’s side of things. After all, her kid is 13! What more does a 13-year-old need besides a couple pairs of jeans with pre-ripped holes and a phone with the TikTok app downloaded onto it? She can simply explain that the $16,000 was decided when she was making X-Men money. Yes, two years ago she was making John Wick 3 money, but still, a little 2 or 3 grand break would be appreciated.
