Here’s A First Look Of Jared Leto As The Joker In The Snyder Cut Of “Justice League”

No, not that one. That’s Jared Leto‘s OTHER alto ego, The Jesus. When Suicide Squad came out the people cried we do not enjoy Jared as The Joker! And lo and behold, the people were appeased. When the standalone Joker movie finally got made, despite Jared’s alleged attempts to get it killed, we were given a kinder, gentler Joker who wouldn’t hurt a fly (but would happily fuck some people up) in Joaquin Phoenix. At last, our long national nightmare of living under the tyranny of Jared being the Joker of record was over! Or so we thought until it was announced last year that Zack Snyder planned to unleash Jared as The Joker on the world one more time for the Snyder Cut of Justice League. Thankfully, from these first look shots provided by Vanity Fair, Zach must have changed his mind and decided to go with the little drowned girl from The Ring as Batman’s foil instead.

Here’s our first look at Jared as Zack’s Joker, which is actually a totally different Joker than the one he played in Suicide Squad. I hate it still.

Ah, so The Joker’s just your garden variety spray paint huffer. That actually makes a lot of sense. VF tells us the difference between Jared’s JL Joker and his SQ Joker.

When he first began working on DC films a decade ago, Snyder thought he would eventually bring the villain into conflict with Batman in a later project, but after his falling out with the studio, he realized that probably would never happen. Instead, when given the opportunity to finally finish Justice League his way for HBO Max, he asked for additional photography to fit Joker into the four-hour event, debuting March 18th.

The only real rule about depicting Joker onscreen is that you have to put your own twist on the monster. Variation is not just allowed but expected. In this case, Snyder chose to cast his Joker as Leto, who played the part (in an entirely different form) in David Ayer’s Suicide Squad in 2016.

Gone are the face tattoos and slicked-back emerald undercut hairstyle of that movie, replaced by a visage that looks like a creature who crawled out of the basement of a long-abandoned insane asylum. Maybe he did.

VF adds that this Joker wears a hospital gown, surgical mask, and “sports a bulletproof vest festooned with grimy law enforcement badges” which are his “trophies.” Here’s a side by side highlighting Jared’s range as an actor.

Amazing transformation. Almost as good as in Jared’s Golden Globe-nominated turn as a creepy serial killer suspect in the Denzel Washington movie The Little Things which I watched on accident. You could tell Jared thought he had it in the bag and was going full Charlize Theron in Monster but ended up looking more like Eddy Murphy in The Nutty Professor. But I guess he did have that shit in the bag after all, so once again, the joke’s on us.
